Name: William Tregoning Location: Germany Comments: May time dull the pain and leave you with the memories of love lost. As my son-in-law is preparing for his second Iraqi deplyement, I watched the video and cried. I also felt guilt that I cannot serve my country again in Iraq. I am an Army vet who is too old to go back. Name: Tammy Groves Location: Lexington, NC Comments: As I watched the video for your son, I couldnt help but to cry. I only wish the best for your family and friends.. Name: Christine Kronebusch (Felz) Location: Twin Cities Comments: Bob, Bridget, and Katie, First of all I want to say that I'm so sorry for your loss. I've visited this site many times, but I've never actually written a message. I want you to know that your family is in my daily prayers. What a blessing to know that your son/brother has touched the lives of so many people WORLDWIDE! I wish you a happy and healthy new year! And congrats on such a beautiful grandbaby/neice! She has Bobby written all over her!! Name: Patrick Rankin Location: Chicago Comments: I am a co worker of Anthony Scinto and felt compelled to express my sadness at the loss of your beautiful son, this world needs more like him not less. My own son is 17 and perhaps for your sacrifice my son will be able to fulfill his life's work and in some way your son's. God bless you all. Name: Meg Warner Location: Cary, NC Comments: I am not going to pretend I have something different to say to you that no one else has said. I am so sorry. I do not know what it is like to lose someone in the way you lost Bobby. Yes, I've lost family and close friends. I understand the pain of loss. But I have not lost a son. I have not lost a brother. I have not lost a father. I hope that I do not ever have to, although I know it is inevitable. Death is part of a cycle that no one can run from. It has come to my attention recently that I am ignorant about the military and war. And I apologize for that as well. I am one of the many people who take our military for granted. I used to be one of the many people who take our military for granted. I did not find this site by accident, my boyfriend sent it to me. He said "I know you will cry when you watch it, but I need you to. Me and my mom both bawled." I knew what the site would be about before he even mentioned it. He is very proud of the military and he is very proud of his Marine brother in law. It is because of my boyfriend that I know I am ignorant and that I was one of the people who took my life for granted. So I watched the video, within 15 seconds my eyes had already filled up with tears for someone I didn't even know. And he didn't know me. But he fought for me and everyone else. He fought for his family. He fought for his friends. Anyone with that kind of bravery is an inspiration to everyone who comes in contact with them. And when they fall, the rest of the world mourns with their families. While I am not jumping at the chance to join the service and protect myself and those close to me, I would like to say 'Thank you' to those who do fight. To those who have fallen. And to those who will choose to fight when given the opportunity. And I'd like to say 'Thank you' to Bobby. God Speed. Name: MSgt Roger Brand Location: NASJRB Fort Worth Comments: Semper Fi. Name: Lisa Zacher Langsdorf Location: Appleton, WI Comments: Greetings in this new year! I knew Bobby many years ago as a little boy. He was so cute and a charmer. You see, Katie was the flower girl at my wedding and your family was well known to my family. My younger sister is Becky. I am sure you remember the little girl with the guitar at church... Well, through Becky I met your family. I remember I even got to baby sit for Bobby and Katie one day, when you still lived "across" from Minooka Park. I will never forget that day, because Katie got stung by a bee on the hand, and that was the only time I every baby sat for them. What a short time I spent with you, becasue after getting married, I went back to school, got my Masters degree and moved 2 hours away, where I am a librarian. Becky e-mailed me the news and I was so saddened. It has taken a long time to write, I am touched by the video, the little boy I knew and enjoyed shines so bright in there...I am sorry I missed knowing him as an adult. He has great parents, who raised a wonderful son. Please keep adding pictures of Payton, she is beautiful. My deepest sympathy, and best wishes for your family in this new year. Stoley, USAF Location: Michigan Comments: Our Lord said, "This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that he lays down his life for his friends." Your son lived this love when he offered his life for a people he did not know. And your family displayed it when you honored him in this way. I know that if our country could catch even a glimpse of the love Christ was talking about, the love exemplified by those who freely serve and sacrifice for the well being of others, our country could be something great. This will happen when we, as a nation, learn to love beyond our own doorsteps. Jesus also once asked his disciples, "Who is your neighbor?" Bobby learned that lesson and acted on it, when will the rest of us catch up? "Change comes in the wake of those who realize the implications of their own convictions, and act on them." Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your son. May the Lord bless you and keep you until the day when you hold him again. In a few days I will return to my unit, 2nd Amphibious Assault BN, D Co., Camp Lejeune, NC. After seven months in Iraq's Al Anbar province, it still seems a short time ago (my buddies in the Corps would insist it is) that I enlisted in the Corps and was put in the Delayed Entry Program. During this four-month period I came across the Bobby Warns site. In the weeks leading up to shipping off for boot camp, Bobby's video tribute would serve as a sobering, yet powerful inspiration to me. It had the same effect when my fellow recruits and I viewed it as an entire company midway through training on Parris Island. It was a subtle, yet unmistakable way for our Company First Sergeant to remind us all why we had chosen to step foot on the famed yellow foot prints. I don't remember if I've ever posted a message here. It is important you know your son is still a hero and a role-model, even to this stranger. I want to extend my sincerest sympathies. I know even now the bittersweet feelings of pain and pride arising from Bobby's great sacrifice must be strong. Perhaps those feelings change with time, but they do not go away. This is how we know Bobby will never be forgotten. I am privileged to share in these feelings with your family. Thank you for giving the public the opportunity, the obligation, to do so. I have watched this video too many times to count, and I don't have words to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. I'm fairly certain when Bobby left for Iraq, you wondered what would happen, hoped for the best----that he would at least make it home. These are the kinds of thoughts a parent has when a child is away at war. I can't imagine how much you miss your son, can't imagine how many times you've replayed the last hug, the last smile, the last laugh, the last "I love you." Please know that your son was not lost in vain----my son, Julian, will fight the fight that Bobby did, for all of us, for freedom and just because it's the right thing to do. Warns is remembered as well, "That which we keep in memory is ours to cherish forever." I had a yung Marine in my Reserve platoon who's last name was Cook and he always refered to me as "Dad" when he came to formation. I was old enough to be his "Dad" since I went in the Reserves at 36 and I was about 40 during this time. Cpl. Cook decided to go on active duty and left the Reserves some time later. He was killed in the Beirut bombing and I felt like I had lost a son. His father was a retired Marine Sergeant Major. I gave the Sergeant Major a photo of Cpl Cook and myself and wrote the inscription on the back. I know it gave some comfort to me and I hope some to the Corporal's family. The other coincidence is that during my Reserve Active Duty two weeks that I spent at Twenty-Nine Palms, California, your son may have been there at the same time since I know his unit, 24th Marines was training at the same time over the years I went there. I regret I didn't get to serve with your son, I've known so many like him and we all are better for their humor, dedication, caring and service to the Marines and the Country. Name: David Location: Ohio Comments: May God Bless your family especially Payton. Many people find it hard to explain why Marines do what they do. I don't know if Bobby talked about it at all but it is something special. Some time ago I came across and article that explains it perfectly, the article reads: "Why are we Marine? Serving our country will never make us rich, at least not financially. Serving one's country is something every American should feel an obligation to. Being a Marine is not about the money. It never has been. It's not about the tangible things that a Marine receives by giving back to his or her country. It's all the intangibles that make us do what we do. It's the feeling in your heart, knowing that you are serving an important purpose in life. It's knoweing that when you're old and gray, your life had meaning and you know that you didnt waste it. It's looking at the Marine on your left and right, knowing if the time ever came, they would gladly lay down their lives for you. Being a United States Marines is knowing that if not for you, this country would not be the free land of opportunity that it is today. It is knowing that there were many Marines before you who sacrificed it all and are still sacrificing everything in order for the Marine Corps to be in existence today. Yes, it takes some time away from your family and loved ones to accomplish a mission, but as hard as it is to leave them, they understand that you are doing this for them, for this country. It is knowing that you are part of an elite military family that will never falter in anything we do. It is being able to spot a Marine wherever you go. It is knowing that someone is a Marine just by the way he or she speaks, by the was he or she dresses and by the way they carry themselves. And it is by knowing that no matter the gender or rank, we all feel tha pain when we lose a Marine, whether it's in combat or in peacetime. It's in the way we get goos bumps when we hear "The Marines' Hymn," and in the way that no matter where we are on this earth, on Nov. 10, we take the time to celebrate the existence and celebrate the fact that we are ensuring our future. We are Marines. We'll never be rich, we'll never be famous, but we will always know that we mattered". -unknown Marine " what we do in life, echo for eternity" What Bobby did in life will echo for ETERNITY inside the heart of every Marine.
