Comments: To the family, extended family, and friends of Bobby Warns:

I was forwarded the video and website from a family member of mine. I am a 31 year old father of two who has lived in Waukesha nearly my entire life. This story hits close to home and I have no idea why I didn't see it all over the news in the past, but I didn't. I am so happy to have found this tribute website and have surfed around it for nearly a half hour in the middle of the night. It has truly touched me.

Tonight, thinking of your son Bobby, I imagine how a loss in my own family, or my wife, children, & family without me, would be dealt with. It would be so incredibly hard. How would my family be taken care of? My children? My wife? All of these things have rushed into my head tonight -- it is nearly one-thirty in the morning and I cried like a baby when I saw the touching memorial for Bobby. I am so moved by the video, family letter, and emails people have sent in great admiration for Bobby. You should certainly be proud parents, family, and friends!

And there are so many other “Bobby’s” out there serving our country. I can't tell you enough how grateful and lucky I personally am...and I hope that the entire United States feels the same way. That is, be thankful to have people like your son making the ultimate sacrifice! Men & women like your son, and all the soldiers who have given their lives or are still in Iraq or anywhere outside the US, should be a reminder to all people in our country not to take our freedoms for granted.

I can only imagine how impossible it must be to deal with the painful memories of what would-have and should-have been; keeping Bobby, your son/a father/friend/uncle/etc, close to you and in your prayers will assure he is never forgotten. And there are so many people all around the world with those same thoughts -- I hope it gives some small measure of comfort to your entire family. Never ever forget & continue to pray and speak about him forever. I am passing this on to every single good friend of mine too so that they can know about Bobby and pass it on for others to know.

It is such a terrible, terrible thing to lose those we love, but in Christ Jesus, the comfort of knowing you will see them again in Heaven brings a comfort that only Christians could know. Take care and God bless you, Matt

Comments: We try to honor, with contributions and with our hearts, the courage and sacrifice of those who protect us all each day. Several times a week we read each name and try to learn a bit about each of those who have sacrificed all since the Iraq war began - the least we can do. As we spent time this Memorial Day doing such we found your beautiful tribute to your son. I hope it helps a tiny bit to know that a family in the heartland can think of no greater person than one who lays down his life for his brother, and though it may sound overused, we truly realize that freedom comes at an unimaginable price.

God bless your family.

Were it not for people like Bobby I would be worried about the future and my daughter. I don't know that I can really put it into words what I want to say to you.

God Bless you! And may God continue to bless your life and everyone in our country with people like your son.

Comments: To the Warns family and all of Bobby's loved ones:

I believe I wrote here not too long ago, a comment simply praising your son's courage and sacrifice to give us all the freedom that we all know isn't free. However, everything struck me on a whole new note when I watched the video tribute today for the first time.

I believe you may know about this, but when I watched the video of Bobby's burial, I realized that the location was all too familiar. On April 15, 2005, I stood in the exact location burying a close friend of mine who was only 19- and, just like you, a loved one who was taken from us all too soon. My friend Angela Kallinger is buried only feet away from your son. As a young woman who joined the military, she was determined to serve her country. Though she had to leave the service for reasons beyond her control, she remained loyal to America until the day she died. Just like your son, I believe she is watching over all of us today. For all the times I visited Angela and saw the flags and flowers surrounding the stone right above her, I never realized that all the memoirs laid out at St. Joseph's were for the same Bobby I have heard about in the past. Every time I return to see Angela, I will also say a prayer for Bobby. Thank you for the outstanding tribute to your son, and for the service and sacrifice you all have made for this country.

Sincerely,

Casey McCall

Comments: Your Son

To the Mothers and the Fathers
Of United States Marines
Who have fought and bled and died
So that freedom¹s bell still rings

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
From the alleys of Fallujah
To the frozen Yudam-ni

From the sands of Iwo Jim
To the hills around Khe Sanh
From the smoky hell of Belleau Woods
Your Son fought and won

Your Son battled dictatorships
Communism and tyranny
God¹s Son died to make men holy
Your Son died to make men free

There is a debt we owe Your Son
That we can never repay
We owe Your Son more than platitudes
Heard on Veterans or Memorial Day

Your Son is a son of America
One of the Proud and the Few
Your Son volunteered to do the things
Other men would not or could not do

Your Son was Semper Fidelis
Always Faithful to the end was he
Your Son was a shining example
Of what a man is supposed to be

Now Your Son has been reassigned
To stand guard on Heaven¹s streets
And when my tour of duty is over
I know that we will meet

I¹ll thank Your Son for my freedom
For keeping terror on a distant shore
I¹ll thank Your Son for our way of life
And the sacrifice he bore

So tonight when you cry out to God
While praying on your knees
Know that He¹s a loving God
Who will listen to your pleas

To lose Your Son for freedom¹s cause
God truly understands
God sent His Son to die for us
So you can see Your Son again

I am engaged to a U.S Marine, who is on a rotation to iraq, 7 months on 5 months off. And it's hard. I saw this video and i cryed the hole time, ive watched it at least 5 times and i cry so hard everytime. I am so sorry for your loss, and i know no matter how many you get it will never be able to take away the pain. But that boy died for our country and i cannot be more thankful for every man and woman who serves. It's a shame he had to go so soon and not be able to see his daughter grow up. But im sure when she gets older she'll be very proud to say her father was one of the few and the proud. Name: Military Order of the Purple Heart

Location: Arizona

Comments: The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of recipients of the Purple Heart medal whom are drawn together by bonds of respect and mutual suffering and a committment to preserve and perpetuate those ideals of liberty, justice, and the general welfare which are the very foundation of our way of life. These principles which, from the beginning of our national history, have served as a beacon of hope and salvation to the peoples of all nations.

We are together as a result of this exceptional service which we hold in common - service which developes close ties of fraternalism and a spirit of brotherhood and loyalty which lives far beyond the actual crucible of war that bore them.

The Purple Heart - first created by George Washington in 1782 - is the symbol of this brotherhood. We must value it as a treasured heritage from the very heart of our country's origin. It was the fortunes of war which asked us to sacrifice more than some ... and some to sacrifice all. Upon men like Corporal Warns depends largely the progress of the United States of America; the significance of which is consumated in the very Purple Heart medal which his family now holds. Let us be ever mindful of all the sacrifices made for us whereby we are permitted to be partakers of the liberties so dearly bought.

Our words and acts add little to Corporal Warns significance and value, but by them we can and do consecrate ourselves to renewed loyalty to our Country, reverence to our God, and continued fidelity to essential service in days of peace as we did in war. Words cannot enhance his glory. Corporal Warns gave his life for the cause of justice, liberty and freedom. We can best consecrate him by rededicating ourselves, our words, our deeds, and our lives to loyal unselfish service, that the cause for which he died will ever live. That the United States will ever remain the bulwark of liberty and freedom, and the guarantor and protector of the democratic and American way of life.

Corporal Warns, we thank you for your sacrifice which shines down through the years upon us and lightens our path for the future. We will walk in the light of your sacrifice forever. You were forgetful of self, oblivious of danger, and offered your life for your country. In deep grief and abiding affection we officially salute you, whose epitaph is indelibly engraved upon our hearts. Soft and safe be your resting place, fellow Patriot. Until we meet again dear Patriot, until we meet again ... farewell.

I have so much respect for those like Bobby who have given their lives to protect the freedom of this country. Not only is this a tribute to Bobby, but it is also a reminder to us all that freedom does not come by not taking action. His death and the death of all the soldiers will not be in vain.I send you my condolences and my deep respect for Bobby and I know that you will see him once again.

We are very saddened by his death in action but we are very proud of him and the legacy of this web site and the testimony of you, his family, enshrined within the site.

Comments: As a former Marine officer, and as a Catholic Bereavement minister and Cemeterian, I like to remind all who grieve that some of the best ways to memorialize our loved ones is to "love one another" as Christ has commanded us. Give blood. Rededicate our lives to doing good in the world. I used to tell my Marines, "Take care of each other, because nobody else is going to take care of you."

Comments: Dear Cpl. Warns,

I know you won't read this mesage but I am writing this letter to you anyways. I saw your remembrance video today and I fell to my knees in sadness and in thankfulness. I never really realized how much pain was in me when a Fellow Marine dies. I am writing to tell you thank you for your sacrifice and commitment to this Great and marvelous Country in which God has placed here. Your sacrifice has allowed me and so many others the chance to live a life they decide to pursue. I have chosen the Marine Corps to serve the people in which I love as you have so unselfishly done. I leave to iraq in June of 2006 and I will continue to fight the battle that you have given your life for. You are my brother and it is hard to write to a great man and Marine without knowing anything about you. You are my hero and your death will never be in vain. Thank you once again and SEMPER FIDELIS!

Sincerely,

Comments: I came upon the Tribute video while doing Google Video searches for Marine's footage of Fallujah, where I was stationed almost a year ago to the day. I volunteered to go back into the Corps after being out for almost 3 years in the Inactive Ready Reserve. It was the best, and perhaps worst decision I've ever made. Having served with some of the finest, most brave, most unselfish men in the world (I went back with a group of 50 volunteers, most of whom had either been to Iraq already, had wives and children and lives outside the Corps that they left behind to defend this great nation) it's hard to go to work everyday here in Colorado. It's hard to think that no job I ever have will ever be as important as being a Marine was. Knowing that my brothers are still over there, fighting and dying, pains me every day. I'm giving it another year, and if I still feel this way, I'm going back in. Every Marine is special, every American life lost is special, and with that in mind I offer my condolences. I never knew your son, but I've known many Marines, and I know that those of us who put our lives on the front lines could not have asked for a more perfect farewell. Good luck and God Speed to you and yours. Semper Fidelis.

Comments: To the parents and family of Bobby,

I do not know where to begin in telling you how sorry I am for the loss of your son Bobby. The bravery of young men and women, such as Bobby, who serve in our Armed Forces in hostile environments is unmatched in this world. They sacrifice so we don't have to. They live in danger so that we can live in relative peace. I only hope that in the end all will see the sacrifice of people like your son and respect that the very moment they are afforded to read it is a result of his dedication to duty. May God continue to watch over us all.

A very close friend recommended a site called runninginhonoroffallenheroes.org. This site is dedicated to those who wish to run a marathon in honor of a fallen hero. I have run 6 marathons, albeit not very fast, but plan on running this year's in "boots and utes". This will be a significant challenge and would be honored if allowed to do this for Cpl Warns, and his family, for the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct 29, 2006.

Dear Tom,

Believe it or not, our entire family participated in the Marine Corp marathon this past October. We had over 20 family members in DC and it was fabulous. We would be honored to know that you are doing this in "boots and utes" in Bobby's memory. Please keep in touch and we'll let you know if we will be joining you.

It was first discovered written by a British soldier whilst in Northern Ireland, It was held in an envelope which read open in the event of my death. The soldier Stephen Cummings, was tragically killed whilst on active service in Northern Ireland. It reads:

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, I did not die.

Comments: I saw a video clip on another web site that this web site contained. I've never met or heard of bobby until now. When I saw the video I was shopping for something on the internet with my brother. The tribute brought emotion to both of us. Since then I have viewed this site and have learned a little bit about bobby and his family. I am greatful to God for men and women like bobby that allow us our freedom and give the greatest charity of all to lay down their life for their friends just like the almighty Christ. Thank you for touching my life and making the world a better place. sincerely yours Cameron Tucker

Comments: Hi bobby,

well last night I felt this really wired thing in my heart like it stoped or something and then I thought that you were in my room because I got the chills and right before I was almost sweating and then for some reason I couldnt remember what your voice sounded like so I started crying and then remembered that there was your voice on your dvd so I watched it then for some reason I heard conversations that we had when ever we would saw each other and I clearly remembered the one when you called me like the day after Bush declared the war and you said that you would tell me if you had to go and you did and i was very sad that you had to go but I was happy that you remembered the conversation that we had.

Comments: I'm currently enrolled in the ROTC unit at U of M, and looking to become an officer in the Marine Corps upon graduation. I'd just like to leave a message saying that your video brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of why I want to serve my country, and it's because I know that I will be fighting alongside men like your son. I'd just like to leave a poem, one of my favorites, and one that I thought of while watching the video.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and
said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod, As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

All the best to your family. Semper Fi.

You have captured the life and character of not only a beloved man, but also a Marine. You are therefore my family; although distant, you share the same heart, the same mind, and garner within you the spirit of what can truly be... if only the natural likeness of mankind could truly grasp the intangibility of genuine and undisputable Love.

You have my thanks, and by my honor I swear to you that when I relieve him as a guard on the streets of heaven, I will shake his hand for the first time and with the appreciation of a lifetime…

Then I'll buy him a beer and give a toast…to you

Comments: I'll Lend You A Child

"I'll lend you for a little time
a child of mine," He said.
For you to love - while he lives
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care or him for Me?
He'll bring his smiles to gladden you,
And should this stay be brief
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've looked this whole world over
In search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd
Life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor count the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
To take him back again?"
I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, And try to understand."

Comments: dear friends

Today I reflected over the loss of one so brave and I decided to tell all those who do not know already that I am Bobby's cousin James Nowak. To my family you probably already knew, I realized that I could be brave like Bobby and tell everybody who I was. The reason why I hid behind this name (Nerf Boy) was because I thought that grief was a weakness, but now I know it is a great strength that everbody has. Grief shows that you care about the person lost or the friend that moved. In a sense grief can be the greatest bond a family has because for the rest of your lives you think of the greatest times that you and the family had with this person. The memories are good and bad but they are always worth reflecting on. I also want to say that Bobby is not gone but he has merely moved to a better part of town, the neighborhood we call heaven. I believe that Bobby visits us every day as though it was his job to watch over us and protect us. I wish to say farewell to Nerf Boy and welcome back to me, James.

Comments: I recently retired from the Royal Air Force after a 40 year career as a combat pilot. Iraq looks much different from the air. Throughout my time in the British Forces, I had occasion to support the United States Marines in exercise and war. I have nothing but admiration for the men who serve their country in such a fine Military body.

I know what you are going through - I have one son in Afghanistan in the Royal Air Force and another in the Army who may possibly be going to Iraq later this year. I dread the knock on the door.

Your sacrifice is not in vain - he gave his life that others may live in freedom. Be comforted with the knowledge that he now sits at the right hand of God, along with the many other American and Allied servicemen who similarily gave their lives.

God bless you. Semper Fi...

Although I did not know Robert, you should be proud to know the fact that he is a Brother, and his passing in the line of duty was shared across the globe through a Marine network.

As a Vietnam Marine who has had both a son and nephew serve in Iraq with our beloved Corps I had to let you know that our Marine family truly does share in the loss of one of our own.

I am a college student at Virginia Tech and am a year and a half from being commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. I've probably watched to video tribute to Bobby 20 times and every time I'm brought to tears. I have friends deployed overseas right now and this tribute always reminds me of the sacrifices they are making for the rest of us. I pray that our country's leaders can take from this what I have; that those who have died in the service of their country are not numbers, but real people who have family and friends who are all affected by the tragedy of their deaths. I pray that you are comforted by the knowledge that you will be reunited with Bobby someday and that he was proud of the sacrifice that he made. Please accept my most humble condolences. As stated by St. John Chrysostom, "Consider to whom the departed has gone and take comfort. He has gone where Paul is, and Peter; and the whole company of the saints. Consider how he shall arise, and with what glory and splendor!"

To know he was a son, a brother, a husband, a father and a friend, I know many have lost. This video makes it so personnel. Most of all Bobby was a Marine, and that is what I will remember, because that was his relationship to me. I can get up at 5 am and go jogging, I can choose to send my son to a private school, I can go to a job to earn a good living and purchase things I choose to purchase, I can enjoy a cookout with friends and family ALL because of men like Bobby fighting for so many freedoms I use to take for granted. So to Bobby's Mom and Dad, I thank you for rasing up such a mighty soldier. I can't wait till I get to Heaven to relieve him of his post so he can walk the streets of gold with you. May God bless you and give you peace. As the waves of joyful memories and the waves of greiving tears well up inside you, ride each to the shoreline. Don't fight it, embrace it.
