Comments: I just watched Bobby's memorial. How touching. My children are still small, 6 and 4. So I can only imagine having a child go to war and be killed in action. It's hard to believe that a country that can put men on the moon, can't find a way to keep our troops safer. I hope you know that all of us Americans are so very thankfull of the sacrifies your children are making now that will keep our young children safe in their future. We live in such a different world since 911. But with the strong Men and Woman overthere fighting for all of us. Someday it will change again. A change for the better.

My brother was a Marine. I'll never forget when he come home from boot camp years ago. You could see he changed. He was not the young kid who left. He was a proud young man. A proud Marine. I prey that you find faith in your God to get past this very sorrowful time in your lives.

He did not die in vain but in the idea of freedom. It is a liberty we as Americans take for granted... and I'm so glad that there are soldiers like Bobby watching out for us and protecting us.

There's more to be said but I'll leave that for any of you to E-mail me.

A bit about myself, born 7 July 42, served Mar 64 to Mar 68 with one tour in Vietnam (Nov 66-67). Am fighting Prostate Cancer (all men 25 or older GET a PSA done, more about that in another E), have a daughter (35), two sons (30 & 25), two granddaughters (2 (9 days apart)) and two grandchildren on the way (2 to 3 months apart this time).

In closing I'll leave you with a quote that was found on a C-ration box lid during clean-up at Khe Sanh, Vietnam after TET '68.

Comments: To the Warns family,

THe video I just had the honor to view was the most moving image I have ever witnessed. I have passed this to all those whom I had the pleasure to have crossed paths with in my career as a fellowb rother in arms.

See,

I too know the loss and sorrow of losing a comrade in arms. I was a Navy Corpsman stationed with the Marines in Hawaii in the 1980's. Although I have put away my uniforms, I still remember the majority of those marines I was so honorably given the priviledge to take care of in thier time of need.

My heart goes out to you Sir, as a father myself, I cannot fathom the loss of a child...May God bless your devoted son and may he hold him in his arms keeping him safe just as he did for us here in the United States of America.

Comments: Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Marine Cpl. Bobby Warns. Not knowing what it is like to suffer the loss of a son during a time of war, we lived the fears last year as our son Marine Cpl. Stephen R. Pater served him tour in Iraq from Jan 2004 until June 2004. Stationed in Okinawa since joining the corp in 2001 it appeared that he may finished his tour there and as a Marine it did not sit well with him. In Nov. 2003 Stephen called me to let us know he volunteered for a tour.

Cpl. Pater is wanting to return for a second tour, and as he says it " It gives a chance for one of my brothers to come home.

As parents and Americans we should be very proud of the sacrifices our young men and women in uniform have done.

May God bless you for the sacrifice you have given and we know Bobby is now serving God.

God Bless You All

Comments: My heart goes out to you and your family. I assume Cpl. Warns was with G Co., 2/24 out of Madison. Perhaps he trained with and knew SSgt. Chad Simon. I never met your son, but I met Chad Simon years ago at Sergeant's Course, and we became friends - the only two "dumb grunts" in our squad. I'm sure Cpl. Warns was of the same caliber - dedicated to his family, his job and his Marines.

As an infantry unit leader, the loss of any Marine is a constant fear. We were fortunate to return from OIF I with everyone, but as we train for a possible second rotation, the fear is constantly on my mind.

I deeply regret your loss. Please tell young Payton that her daddy was more than an individual, as a Marine he was part of something greater. Tell her that as a Marine, he helped bring the freedoms we Americans often take for granted, to people who have been denied freedom. If I can do anything in the future for any of you, never hesitate to contact me. Semper Fidelis.

Comments: Our nation owes our very freedom to the selfless sacrifice of young men and women who are fearless in their devotion and love to God and Country. As a 3rd generation Marine whose family roots are anchored in Beleauwood WWI, and span the Banana Wars, World II, Korea, Vietnam, and Somalia--and with son to enter the Corps in 2006, I remain ever grateful to Bobby Warns. He epitomizes all for which this nation stands. While I never had the personal pleasure to greet Cpl Warns, I know him in my heart and mind. And I see him every day in the faces of his fellow Marines--retired, active duty, and former Marine warriors. We share an ethos and a brotherly comraderie. This nation thanks you, and your fellow Marines thank you. No one shall ever doubt that Cpl Bobby Warns made a difference in this world. God bless him; God bless the Warns family.

"A Marine"

A marine's bravery cannot be matched

To the frontlines is where he will be dispatched His courage has no limits, his sacrifice no end His United States of America is what he'll defend Fighting a war in faraway lands Is what his job entitles, its what it demands He'll leave for unknown places not asking why Hoping its death that he can defy They call them the few and the proud To protect freedom and country is what they vowed He'll give life and limb without dismay Knowing it is the ultimate sacrifice he may have to pay An American Hero that won't see tomorrow Will fill us all with grief and sorrow But on eagles wings his spirit will soar Because of his honor and commitment to God, Country and Corps.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Comments: Dear Warns Family:

I happened upon your site from a link on the Marine Corps Moms site this evening. I had just finished watching the State of the Union address and was very moved by the moment a Mother of a fallen Marine shared with the country and with the woman from Iraq.

My brother is a Marine, 2/1, 1st expeditionary force and returned from Iraq in October '04. I cannot tell you the fear and heartache that went through my mind those 7 months. But my brother came home, and Bobby did not. I am forever grateful to your son and your family for the sacrifice you have made for the people of Iraq and the United States of America.

Thank you for sharing his life with us. I have posted a link to this site on my blog http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=noelle1979 so that more people can see that your son was a great man.

>From the bottom of my heart,

Semper Fidelis and God Bless you.

Comments: As I sit here looking at the screen I really do not know how to begin. I came across this web-site in a class I was in at The Basic School. I was sitting in a room with 270 of the Marine Corps newest officers and I don't think that I was ever so moved. Your son is the reason I became an Officer of Marines. To lead a man like your son is not only a priviledge but it is a great honor. I can not even imagine the grief and pain your family has gone through, but you can rest assured that he will never be forgotten among those who knew him and those who carry on his mission. I was so moved by the tribute that I came home from work and watched it with my wife. We sat with tears and our eyes and were speechless. If there is anything I can do to help please do not hesitate to email me. Never forget that you are heroes like your son.

Respectfully Yours,

Comments: I didn't know Bobby Warns. I first met him here through the tribute offered by his family and friends. But I've know thousands of young men just like him and held some of them in my arms... in Vietnam ... in Beirut. One quality is common -- they loved life, but were not afraid to go in harms way to follow the flag or defend the country that they loved.

God bless you, Bobby. We'll meet again ... very soon.

To Bobby's loved ones: treasure those smiles, those happy moments. Try not to dweel too much on your loss. Bobby remains with you, for heroes never die.

God bless ... and Semper Fidelis.

I can only imagine the pain the family must be going through, may God comfort you. Before my son was deployed, his sister gave him a shirt that said " Most people wonder their whole life if they made a difference, a Marine doesnt have that problem" The courage, bravery and sacrifice that Bobby has shown will never be forgotten. Bobby we thank you for your service, you truely made a difference. Rest in peace. Well Done Marine, Semper FI.

I am very glad that I came home alive and in one piece, but there were others who fell beside me just like Bobby did. I suppose that we can really take no solace in the fact that there had been GIs dying before Bobby and there will be GIs dying in the future. Such is the nature of our civilization. If it means anything at all, I would like to say that I am proud to know that there are fine young men like Bobby serving their country's calling at no heed to their own personal regards.

I'm sure that for those who sees it, a little bit of Bobby will live on forever in their hearts as it will in mine.

Comments: AS TOILSOME I WANDER'D VIRGINIA'S WOODS

As toilsome I wander’d Virginia’s woods,

To the music of rustling leaves kick’d by my feet, (for ’twas autumn,)

I mark’d at the foot of a tree the grave of a soldier,

Mortally wounded he, and buried on the retreat, (easily all could I understand;)

The halt of a mid-day hour, when "Up! No time to lose"—yet this sign left,

On a tablet scrawl’d and nail’d on the tree by the grave,

"Bold, cautious, true, and my loving comrade".

Long, long I muse, then on my way go wandering;

Many a changeful season to follow, and many a scene of life;

Yet at times through changeful seasons and scenes, abrupt, alone, or in the crowded street,

Comes before me the unknown soldier’s grave—comes the inscription rude in Virginia’s woods,

"Bold, cautious, true, and my loving comrade".

Comments: What a beautiful tribute to your son and to a child of this nation that has given his all. I am at a loss of words as I cry with the pain of a Mother's heart at the thought of losing a child. My only child (son)was in the Army for 20 months and is now outdue to some medical problems. Selfishly I am thankful but through his service I have been touched by each and every child that America has given for this cause. I have a tribute to our troops in my yard year round which consists of Christmas trees (1 large decorated in red, white and blue and 2 small ones decorated only in yellow at the base of my flag pole). It's just a small way for me to hopefully remind each person who drives by at night that they may stop and think about the true cost of our freedom.

To His Mother: I am a member of Blue Star Mothers and you are now a member of Gold Star Mothers. Please know that we all grieve for you and with you and we will pray that God will grant you peace and a calmness in knowing that your son is a Hero to all of us. Thank you for your sacrifice that only another Mother can know and understand.

Sincerely,

I turned the audio off and watched the video alone in silence. Halfway through, my 6 yr. old daughter came into the room, asking why Momma was crying. I told her that one of Momma's brother Marines gave his life for the freedom of people in Iraq. While I'm sure that she doesn't fully understand, my heart aches because Bobby's child will.

Comments: Hello again!

Thank you all so much for writing back to me! It is so encouraging to hear from all of you back home, and the good news you shared was so uplifting.

I was thinking about you again today and praying for you, when some more memories of your Bobby popped into my mind that I wanted to share with you.

As you no doubt knew from experience, your Bobby had quite a sense of humor. He was very good at getting a laugh out of everyone. One day in Camp Pendleton he brought a Taser to "show" to everyone. It was a wild day I recall, as he and the other guys took turns chasing each other around with the awful thing. They took a lot of it on video, so I hope that you have gotten a chance to watch it! I believe he had it on his computer. That was the entertainment around our barracks for DAYS, guys tasing and getting tased. He also bought a slingshot with lots of paintballs for all of the guys to use. He used to have a lot of fun shooting at guys in the back from a distance. I noticed that most of the fun we had on base revolved around a "theme" (kiddie swimming pool, taser, slingshot, playing "Command and Conquer: Generals") and nearly all of them were generated by Bobby. He was definitly our ringleader and supplier when it came to extracurricular fun.

One of my fondest memories of your Bobby was that he had so many photos of friends and family on his wall locker door. I always looked at photos he had of his mom, dad, sister, girlfriend and friends each time I came into the room, and he was always so happy to tell me the stories behind them. You could tell, from the photos alone, how much all of you loved him, and were so proud of him.

One of his favorite topics of conversation with me was his girlfriend, Erin. He enjoyed showing off photos of her with me, and we would both swap photographs of our girlfriends and share dating stories. You could always tell by the way that he talked with her on the phone, and talked with me about her, that he was so in love with her. I was always impressed by what a sweet relationship they had.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. I always love hearing from all of you, and you are very encouraging to me.

Always in my thoughts and prayers,

Josiah

It was for me, a cllective tribute to all who are serving and a reminder of the pain felt by so many when their sons or daughters do not return. I am about to be a Grandpap - and am privelaged to have a son nearby who's loss I can but imagine.

Through that imagination however, I feel I can in part feel the sorrow of all who grieve. You have my heartfelt love and wishes, for strength to endure.

I don't know your Robert, but i was sent this site by my brother which is currently in the marines. I come from a military family who mean the world to me. I just wanted to let whoever is reading this know how much i appreciate people like Robert in this world. If it wasn't for people like him, who are brave enough to put there lives on the line for something much more greater than people realize. There are not many people in this world that would be willing to fight for what they believe is righteous. He fought for his country, family, friends, people he never even met before. If it wasn't for people like him we wouldn't live the life we are leading today. I just wanted to show my deepest sympothy, appreciation, and gratitude towards his family and friends. Yes it's hard to deal with loosing a loved one...but always keep in mind he is in a better place. A place without war, or poverty, or anything else that's corrupt about the world we live in today. I don't even know Robert P. Warns II, but in my eyes he is a real American Hero.

As I train Marines to guard embassies abroad, I tell them there is no more an honorable way to meet their maker if that is their calling than to meet him as a United States Marine on duty. There is no consolitation for the loss of a child, but realize that Cpl Warns is serving still as a Marine hero for all to emulate. I too was emotional when thinking of the sacrifice he has made and the loss you have suffered. Always realize that a Marine never dies in vain; it is only to make a path for others to follow. I wish the best for your family and I pay tribute to my brother, Bobby. May he rest in peace!

Comments: As a Marine myself, and having a husband who is in Iraq- I can imagine what your pain must be like...and I send my deepest sympathies. There is nothing that I can say that will ease the pain I'm sure- only God and time can do that. So with that- just know that your family is in my prayers.

Comments: To the family of Bobby Warns,

As the mother of an only child who served with the 82nd Airborne in Iraq, I can only offer my deepest sympathies at your loss. This site was sent to me by a friend, who knew that placing faces with names is something that is important to me. My son lost a couple of good buddies while there and while I'm thankful he's home unscathed physically, I mourn for all those who won't return.

Your HERO will never be forgotten by thousands of military mothers everywhere.

HUGS to all of you,

Karen

Comments: Dear Warns family and friends,

Every day I pray and thank God for many things. I thank God for family, friends, freedom, shelter, etc. Since Bob's passing, I thank God every day for his sacrafice. As you know, my sister was a good friend of Bob's so I get to hear great stories; at least a few a week. Even in his absence he makes me laugh; not many people are able to do that! I was so glad to wake up this morning and hear that voting was a success in Iraq. I knew that Bob played such a big role in that as well as his fellow marines and service men. I prayed last night for there to be peace, and I prayed for all of Bob's family and friends. Every Sunday me and Jacinta go to church and when we silently tell God the prayers that our in our hearts, Bob and all who knew him are at the top of our lists. Bob will always be such a living spirit to me and I will forever keep your family and his friends in my prayers. You guys are so amazing and have so much strength and faith and it keeps me going each and every day.

With much love,

Brienna

Comments: I just watched the video tribute to Bobby via Darrell Ankarlo's website, and as I type this to you my eyes are filled with tears of gratitude. How can words express my thankfulness to your family for giving your son and husband for me, my husband and our two children, who are total strangers? What can I say to you in appreciation for the sacrifices that have been made for all Americans and Iraquis, whether they are thankful or not? All I can say is simply this -- thank you and may the Lord bless you all. I will pray for you as you continue through this earthly life. May God's blessings rain upon you all.

Comments: Bob & Bridget,

This is the day I have been the most proud to be an American in my 41 years of life. Your son gave that to me. I remember him from when I worked at CMH. What a great day for the world it is today with free democratic elections in Iraq!

This is a victory for the USA and for the protection of our homeland and our security thanks to Bobby. People laughed at President Bush when he said we had a choice to wait for them to attack again and fight them here in the USA, or to take the fight to them. Their criticism grew more intense as thugs from around the world showed up in Iraq to fight against freedom. This was the plan and it has worked. This is a victory for freedom around the world. The hearts of many in oppressed countries jumped for joy today thanks to Bobby and his bravery. They must be thinking, "If it can happen there, perhaps here!"

This is a victory for the peace-and-freedom loving people of Iraq thanks to Bobby. 60%+ turnout despite threats to their lives! The marines had 100% turnout despite threats to their lives. We have it so good in this country and I am ashamed on nay-sayers who criticize each step of victory and try to take away your pride and honor. However, I am proud that they have the right to scream their opposition in free voices thanks to Bobby.

I was in Slovenia shortly after they broke free from Yugoslavia. That is when I learned not to take freedom for granted. My translator told me how everyone was worried that at any given moment of each day Slobidan would come over the borders.

Freedom cannot be stopped. It marches on from heaven to earth. It is a spiritual desire. It is a human heart's desire and the very essence of human nature. Oppressive regimes and oppressive extremist religious leaders around the world are terrified that their way of life is destined to remain only in history books thanks to Bobby.

I am too young to remember Viet Nam or the murder of JFK. 14 years ago, almost to the day, my wife and I went out to eat for my birthday and took our first-born son of 2-months with us. We were on the eve of the first Iraq war. We were nervous and afraid not knowing what to expect. We wondered aloud about the world we were bringing him into. It started years ago. We may have many years to go yet. Still, the pride within me today is consuming. Freedom will not be stopped.

I believe this day will be one of the most significant days in world history since WWII. I feel so good for our troops and the sacrifices they have made. They have earned and deserve an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and pride. I am proud of our President as well and the very tough decisions he has had to make.

I can say nothing to relieve your tremendous sacrifice and loss. I won't try. I cannot begin to imagine the pain. I do very much hope and pray that in one very special part of your heart today you feel a huge, calming, warming, tremendous sense of pride and honor for what Bobby has done for the free people of the world. I am honored to have known such a man who gave everything he had for me. Thank you, Bobby. Thank you Bob & Bridget. May God always be with you!

Comments: Hello again!

All is well here in Iraq, we all can't wait to come home again though! I was thinking about your family today, and I wanted to share with you one of my earliest memories of Bobby. He was a really dedicated Marine, and when he came back from the School of Infantry he was so proud to show off the fact that he knew the M 240 G machine gun system inside and out. When we were getting quizzed on our knowledge of the different machine gun systems by our sergeant he always knew all of the answers, and we both had fun competing against each other. I could always tell that he was very careful in his responsibilities as a machine gunner.

One of the interesting things I noticed about Bobby was that when we all came for our monthly drill at Madison he always brought with him canned food. I took notice of this as being a very good idea, considering that we didn't always get chow when our tummies told us it was mealtime! I recall that he was especially fond of tinned fruit and tuna. Your Bobby was definitly "smarter than the average bear" in coping with the Marine Corps, and very clever when it came to making military and field life more comfortable.

I look forward to meeting all of the friends and relatives of Bobby, so I can tell you lots of neat stories of his life. Until then, I will be praying for all of you, because you are daily in my thoughts. I have very good memories of your Bobby, and am very grateful to have known him.

Always glad to be your friend,

Josiah

Josiah,

Your emails are always so wonderful to receive. I am sure I can speak for all of us in saying how much we enjoy hearing your Bobby Stories.

I am looking forward to you and all of Golf Co. getting home.

Josiah, you and Golf made yesterday the success it was! We were watching all day yesterday (Sunday). IF it wasn't for the Marines, this successful vote would not have occurred. You have made a difference in the History of the world.

We continue to pray for you, your brother and all of Golf.

Bob, Sr.

I just wanted to say "thank you" so much for taking the time to write to us--relating a Bobby story--and telling us a part of Bobby that we weren't able to see. I laughed out loud when I read that he would take canned food--doing things his own way, staying within the "rules" b/c no one said he couldn't :)

I love hearing these stories. It helps with the deep feeling of loss, b/c for those few minutes while the story is being told--we are gaining a piece of Bobby back...and so the loss is lessened a little. It is such a great gift --as Bobby's friends and fellow Marines--to be able to give us.

I just can't tell you and the other Marines of 2/24 how much these stories will always mean to us!

Congratulations on this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of you should be so proud, as we are bursting with pride back in the U.S. We cannot wait for you to be home-and you are always in our prayers.

Thanks for the friendship, Josiah.

Katie--Bob's extremely proud sister.

Comments: As a mother of an Airman in Security Forces training, I did not want to watch this video when the site was given to me the first time.

When it came to me the second time, I knew it was for a reason. It is often easier for us not to put the faces and the personality with the names of our fallen Heros. Meeting Bobby on here makes it that much more difficult.

I want to personally say thank-you for his service to our great country. To defend the freedom and rights of our nation and for Iraq for many in that country who do not yet realize what we are doing for them is what he did and died for.

May you be comforted amoungst all the mourners. May the joy of family ease the pain. I could not ever imagine losing my son and I am sorry you had to lose a son and husband.

Bless you.

Comments: Dear family and friends all close to Cpl Warns' heart, I send my love and care for all of you. I never meet Cpl Warns, but he is the same as I, a United States Marine. That means we are brothers. I know he fought well because that’s what we're trained to do, win battles! I wish he could have came home safe and well to see all of you again, but it seems God had another plan for him. I know he's doing well, standing at parade rest guarding the gates of heaven.

Comments: As the video finished, I thought "The entire country of Iraq isn't worth the sacrifice of one man such as this". The tears welled up in my eyes and my soul. Anger and sorrow filled my heart. Then the answer came, from somewhere beyond myself. "This is not a desert of sand and stone we fight to conquer, it is a people we strive to free." That might be the only thing worth such sacrifice, on his part and ours. God bless you.

Comments: My brother serves in the 82nd Airborne and has served in Afghanistan and Iraq. We sometimes use the word "freedom" a little irreverently. Before my brother joined up, I never really appreciated how much the word "freedom" really means. Babies are out there serving their country so selflessly. We owe them the world. This tribute to Mr. Warms is very beautiful. We need to keep our soldiers and their families in our daily prayers and every time you see a service person. Just let them know how much we appreciate them and what they have done for us!! We can never thank them enough for what they have seen and been through. God Bless them all!!
