Comments: I am a retired Chief Petty Officer and a veteran of the first Gulf War. I served with the Marines at Iwakuani, Japan in 1997. This memorial tribute is by far the most moving I've ever seen. Bravo Zulu! I know Bobby is now standing his watch and if I am worthy I shall be granted entry passed heaven's gates from his passing salute. Gods Speed to his family and loved ones. I leave you from my memory the 4th verse of the Navy Hymn. "Eternal Father strong to save, to all Marines both night and day, their courage, honor, strength and skill, their land to serve, Thy law fulfilled, Be Thou the shield forever more, from every peril to the Corps."

Very Respectfully,

I am passing this message along to you because it means so much to me.

It is published with the names of those that have passed in the alumni magazine of the US Naval Academy.

It is written on a head stone of one of my classmates in Colorado.

I do think of them everyday.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

You and he have given the ultimate sacrifice and for this we thank you. May the Lord richly bless you for sharing your son.

Comments: There are no words that can make your loss any easier. Although I never knew him, after watching your video I grieve at the loss of such a brave, selfless and honorable man that I never had the privilege of knowing. I pray that the Lord will comfort you in your time of sorrow. That he would strengthen you as you continue and face the days ahead. Along with you, this country has lost a great hero. A man who sacrificed, freely, willingly and proudly for this great nation.

This nation needs more men and women like Bobby. We are very grateful for his ultimate sacrifice and those of his company. And the sacrifices of his family.

May his daughter know of the courage, valor and dignity that her father held. May she always know the honor he had and be proud of the man who was her father. As he now stands with the Lord in heaven and watches over her as she grows, may she feel the safety that her father fought so hard to provide for her.

Thank you for sharing this video and a part of Bobby with us. It is to our disadvantage that we did not know him, yet now we will never forget him. I was moved beyond words and the tears just flowed as I watched this video of his life and sacrifice. May the Lord Bless you and keep you in the coming New Year. Always remember Jeremiah 29:11 - God had a purpose for Bobby and a great and perfect plan for his life and even though to our human knowledge and eyes we do not always understand the Lords ways, to Love Him is to Trust in Him and in the things we cannot see and understand.

Thank you Bobby for your great sacrifice and that of your family.

Best Wished and Many Blessings,

I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling losing such a wonderful man. I have a son in Baghdad, with 6 more months to go. It's almost unbearable for me to learn about all the incredible young men killed and injured over there. All I have to offer you are prayers that your pain will lessen with time, and the assurance that your wonderful Bobby is in heaven with the rest of our young heroes. They have given way more than their share.

Comments: I know that there are no words that could be said or typed here to ease the suffering and pain in your hearts at this time, but I am no less driven to offer you these words in respect to your loss and your grief in the hopes that they may bring you comfort.

I did not know Bobby, and I feel diminished for it. The world is in need of more people of the caliber of Bobby Warns. Though it often seems that the world is overrun with hatred and evil and discontent, it is the actions of Good men like Bobby that hold the line against the darkness.

Edmund Burke once wrote "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." and Ronald Reagan once said "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid."

Bobby was a good man and he was unafraid.

But I want you and yours to know that the words, "On Behalf of a Grateful Nation" are not just words. This nation, and her people, are indeed grateful for the sacrifices of the men and women of our Armed Forces and for the sacrifices of the families who give their young men and women over to the defense of Freedom.

It is Heroes like Bobby that make this nation great.

Know that all of our hearts are with you in this time of loss and know that many of us are saddened by the loss of such a great and selfless young man.

May god bless you and yours.

Comments: Mr. & Mrs Warns,

As I sit here with my family and watch this heart warming tribute to your son tears roll down my face. My daughter asked "Daddy why are you crying?" My answer....I am crying because I am proud. I am proud of being an american. I am proud of our children. I am proud of these young men that are out there day after day doing what we ask of them. Providing not only us Americans but providing people around the world the freedoms they desire. Providing the security they need to get those freedoms.

I believe Robert died a hero not because he died in action but also because he had the guts, the willingness the unselfishness to give up some of his own freedoms to insure others can enjoy their's.

I am ex military and have seen my share so I feel I am qualified to tell you that you Mr & Mrs Warns are perhaps the biggest hero's of them all. To raise a child and support their decision to join the military and then watch them go off to fight that takes a special kind of person. I would only hope if my daughter decided to serve I would be as supportive. Be as proud of yourselves as you are of Robert. I know we are proud of you all.

Mr & Mrs Warns we thank you.

The one thing that has remained constant is the pain and grief of losing another fine Marine. This site means a lot to many of us that didn't have a chance to express our sorrow for the Marines that we lost. I always wanted to contact the families of the Marines that I knew in 1968 & 1969 that died in Viet Nam. We didn't have the technology of today, so it is today that I say, "Thank you for sharing your Marine with all that knew him, and many that didn't. It is with heartfelt sympathy, and with my deepest gratitude that I salute Bobby and his family." Semper Fi.

Not knowing your Robert, but from words about him that I heard he had this character and he received it from all around him and has left it with you as an inheritance for his child as Jesus did for us.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen

I have been a Drill Instructor too. I have built Marines from the ground up so to speak. I have seen the grit and toughness of these Marines. Marines become a family no matter what job they do. We earn our Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, the same we earn our stripes. This the only branch of the service you don't join, you become a U.S. Marine by earning the title. I can tell Bobby was a proud Marine from the photos. The reason Bobby was so proud was because of his family. I could see his chest stuck out futher because of his pride. What a great family Bobby has!! I am honored to leave a word with his family. I will say my special prayer for Bobby and the family tonight. May God Bless everyone! Comments: I was moved by the video.

It is so painful (as if that or any word could be adequate) to lose a child, no matter their age.

Seeing your young man, especially in the pictures from Iraq, reminded me very clearly of my last war (the Gulf in 90/91).

I went over as an acting Platoon Commander with a Combat Replacement Company. As the members of CRC were transferred to various units through out the Marine Corps AO one of my duties was to make sure that each young Marine was materially ready to go into combat operations. Check that they had a will, their SGLI was up to date, etc.

One particular young Marine, whose name of course I can't mention, had performed his duties, such as they were, in a very professional manner. Over the course of our units time together I had come to respect him individually and tremendously.

Eventually his orders came through assigning him to a unit at the front, along the Saudi - Kuwait border. After I had finished inspecting his 782 gear and reviewing the relevant parts of his SRB we shook hands and I turned to walk away. I had taken only a few steps when he called out to me "hey, Gunny, can I talk to you for a minute?" Of course I said yes and he indicated that he would like to talk in private.

Not a young man to mince words or beat around the bush he said "Gunny, I'm afraid." Even now, all these years later, I am filled with emotion as I think of that young Marine.

I looked at him intently for a moment (several moments really) and I'm sure that he thought I was "collecting my thoughts" about what I was going to say to him. Not so.

At that time I had served the Corps for twenty years and I'd had similar conversations before. I knew immediately exactly what I was going to say to him.

As I looked at that young man who had expressed thoughts every sane individual harbors as they are about to go into combat, a thousand thoughts flashed through my mind. For the first time I was about to counsel someone who was exactly the same age as my oldest son.

Although I can tell you that it never appeared on my face, I was choked with emotion for a split second. I couldn't have said a word if my life had depended on it.

We spoke. It appeared that my counsel had some comforting effect, I hope so of course. He remained the professional I regarded him as being as he did the things one has to do in preparation for "moving out."

Our encounter changed me though. To that point in my career my fellow Marines were just that, my fellow Marines. From then forward they were FIRST someone's son or daughter, SECOND they were my fellow Marines.

I do not know if he lived or died. I believe strongly that if he lived he did his duty as a consummate professional, acting in combat as a Marine NCO is expected to act, accomplishing whatever mission was assigned him efficiently, effectively and yet as sparing of the lives of his subordinates as it is possible to be in combat. And if he died I'm sure he did both himself and the Marine Corps proud.

Some years later my son was in service of the Navy. Being a selfish father I advised him not to join the Marine Corps or the Army, hard to believe huh?

As such things sometimes go, it didn't matter. He was killed anyway. I don't tell you this to draw sympathy for me but to let you know that I understand exactly how you feel.

The death of a child, no matter their age, leaves a wound in the heart that can never completely heal. Only time and the gentle lens of the past allow one to return to "normal" and get on with their life.

The passing of your son was the worst possible tragedy. I did not know him and yet I can tell you that I am proud of his service. I did not know him and yet I can tell you that I too grieve at the loss of a fine young man and fellow Marine.

Marines do not forget their own. I can tell you that the circumstances of his death are recorded somewhere. 50 years from now, long after we are gone, someone will read of his death within the Corps and they will mourn his loss, and they will grieve. We are a "Band of Brothers" and that certainly includes the families of those who paid the ultimate price.

I hope that time has been kind to you. I hope that the pain has come to be bearable. Your son and yourselves have become part of my Marine Corps now. I will think of you and grieve for you from time to time as is the way of all Marines, especially around Nov. 10th. The Corps birthday is a time for celebration and introspection as Marines enjoy the company of other Marines who have lived to tell the tale and think of those of us who cannot be here, "those not present".

Words can not express how very very grateful I am for all who give of themselves to keep us safe.

Comments: Bridget and Family-

I want to express my deepest sympathy to you on the loss of Bobby. My words are belated but you have been much in my thoughts over this holiday season. As mentioned at a funeral of a young friend of mine this year, few people have lived such a full life in such a short period of time. I'm guessing the same was true of Bobby although obviously he was taken well before his time. I'm hopeful that the birth of your granddaughter will bring you comfort and joy. I wish you many happy memories and a blessed 2005.

All the best,

Laura Brown

Comments: Dear Warns family,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful video. My husband is Major David Durham and I want you to know how honored I was to meet your family. I shared with David my instant impression of your family when we met. It was very obvious to me that you were Christians that lived what you believed. Your belief that faith is something larger than us, was evident in the grace in which you were handling such pain. no one knows how he or she would handle such a loss, but I want you to know that you have touched my spirit in a way that I will never forget.

David and our family will never forget Bobby's sacrifice.

As a mother of five boys who want to be Marines, thank you Mrs.Warns for your wonderful example of the Grace, of a Godly woman.

Comments: My heart can not begin to feel the pain and lonliness you are feeling at this time. Heaven is surely a better place with the presence of your son, brother, husband and/or father. I thank God for those who are willing to give their very lives that we might live in a country like the USA. I have the greatest respect for anyone who serves in the military. Whether or not the war in Iraq is right or wrong, your loved one made the supreme sacrifice! We are a military family, my husband served 26 years in the Air Force, my brother fought in Viet Nam, my father in WWII, and my grandfather in WWI. They all came home safe and sound--oh how my hearts breaks for you. Please know you are in my prayers and I pray the Lord will give you a peace to fill the void your Marine has left in your life. As I said before, I cannot even begin to know how you feel but I can assure you that there are not words to convey my gratitude for those who unselfishly serve in the uniformed services today. Thank you for making the supreme sacrifice for all Americans.

Watching the video of your son's funeral caused me to bite my lower lip. It swept my breath away.

Your son's fellow Marines looked magnificent as they stood ramrod straight, guarding proudly, their fallen brother.

The video stirred the very depths of my soul, it was so moving!

Something as simple as a hand slipping off his coffin, or as riveting as watching you, mother, bend to kiss Bobby's coffin, or of the Marine making the sharp pivoting, military turns at the front of the church, or of the strong, young, professional man, a Marine, kneeling down to present the colors to you - how tearful!

I hurt inside, yet at the same time it made me so very proud. Proud to be an American. Proud to be a citizen of this great land.

I wish that a professional video tribute, done as well as your son's, would be bestowed upon each and every military person who gave their life.

I thought of all the other families who have lost a child to war.

At the very least, a similar video tribute should be provided by our government to each and every family who have lost a loved one in combat - of course, if they desired such.

A young lady, who's brother is in a Battalion in Iraq, showed me some emails that the Battalion commander, LtCol Smith writes to the families of the battalion to keep them abreast of what transpired through the week with the unit.

He wrote of the sad and terrible loss of two of their young troops in the later weeks of December, 2004.

He wrote of how devastated they all are.

The following week he wrote of how his young soldiers - dusty, and cold, and hungry, and exhausted - nonetheless, rose to their feet to render him respect when he walked in on them.

He wrote of how these young men remarked how they felt a sense of purpose of what they are doing there - providing security so young Iraqi children can go to school.

I pasted a small piece from the Lieutenant Colonel's email on what those Marines said to him: "..what really gets you Sir...those little kids...those little kids...they come up to you, and in their broken English say "look, we go to school" with a wide smile and a thumbs up.

It gets to you Sir, it feels good. We are doing really good out there, aren't we Sir?"

That was what your son, Bobby, was a part of, and doing his job, when these sobs killed him.

Dear Warns family, your son gave of his precious life, so that other human beings, the young, old, and unprotected could feel a sense of security provided by our country's young people. What a beautiful gift to humanity!

Please check out this is a beautiful link that pays tribute to our special young people, like Bobby, http://www.coronanorco.com/America-at-war/index.htm

Comments: My heart goes out to your family and I cannot imagine the loss you have suffered. I was tremendously moved by the video tribute for Bobby, a young man who was obviously loved and respected by so many people. I retired from the Air Force this summer and your website was shared with me by a retired Army colleague, both of us concluding our military careers with U S Special Operations Command. It was there I enjoyed my first association with Marines. I found them all to be model military professionals, taking such pride in their work, their appearance and exemplifying the values they were taught as young Marines. They were always an inspiration to me as Bobby will continue to be for the millions who will be touched by his service and his life. I lift you up in my prayers and wish for you all a New Year rich with blessings, especially the joy that little Payton will bring to your family when she arrives.

God Bless You!

Comments: Having this website here makes me feel like maybe I can still talk to you.

I miss you Bobby. I miss you stopping by. I miss your laugh, (especially when you thought something was really funny, or somebody just did something really stupid). I miss you sleeping on my couch, sunglasses and all. I miss going to George Webb's in the middle of the night.

I miss our talks. Remember all we talked about before you left? All our hopes, all our fears, what we were going to do with ourselves in life. Life was going to take us where it took us, all we could do was live it and hopefully have some fun along the way.

I read the letter you wrote me from time to time, the one where you told me not to change. But to be honest with you man I don't know how I can't. It's hard not having you around. It's like a little piece of the puzzle is gone, and know matter hard you try to put the others together you can't make it whole. Justin misses you a lot too. I think he might be taking it even harder than me.

God we miss you Bob.

Your memorial/fundraiser went well. Lots of people came to show their support and a lot of money was raised for your little girl. I'm sure like any Daddy your going to worry, and I suppose it won't do me any good to tell you not to. But you know as well as I do no little lady has ever had an entourage of uncles like your little lady will.

Well buddy, thanks for listening. And until we talk again you take care of yourself. And don't forget to look in on us from time to time, cause your friends still need you.

Your Friend,

There is not a hug strong enough.
There is not a smile wide enough.
All I can offer is thank you.

You are in my thoughts.
You are in my prayers.
For all you've done, thank you.

Where there are no days and years. Think how I must be wishing that you could know today how nothing but your sadness can really pass away. And think of me as living in the hearts I've touched. For nothing loved is ever lost.

And I was loved so much.

Comments: To the Warns family,

I want to send out my deepest sympathy in regards to the loss of Cpl. Warns. That was a breathtaking tribute that was put together for him. I myself fought in Iraq at the start of the conflict and returned home in June of last year. I've served almost seven years in the Marines, now with 6th Engineer Support Battalion, South Bend, IN. I was there for the start of the conflict, and have mourned the loss of brethren. Cpl. Warns is one of a special breed of human beings that stepped up, and raised his right hand to earn the title of United States Marine. There's no better friend. I may not know Cpl. Warns personally, but as a Marine, we have a lot in common. I will share Cpl. Warns's tribute with my Marines, and send out a special prayer and a thank you to Cpl. Warns's for his Bravery and Honor. God Bless you all.

Comments: I met Bob in Milwaukee at his favorite hangout, Axel's. The thing that I knew and remember about Bob is that he was an optimistic and cheerful guy who cared a lot about his friends and other people. I saw Bobby mature greatly as a person the couple years I knew him. Bob was always good for a smile or a good laugh, and I was always the better after chatting or hanging out with him. His demeanor was always so natural...he never tried to be someone he wasn't. I appreciated this about him. He is and will be dearly missed by those of us who knew him. To his credit, I didn't know anyone who didn't get along with or like Bob. We will all miss him dearly, and are saddened that his life was cut short at such a precious young age. He truly was a special and wonderful person.

Comments: Dear Mr & Mrs Warns,

It is Christmas Eve, and just like every other day, there is not a day that ges by that I do not think of your son and others like him. Know this, that he and his selfless service to this country will never be forgotten.

Our own son graduated from MCRD San Diego on November 19, and MCT this past Friday. We do not know yet where his future will take him, but wherever he will be, he is a part of a proud family which includes your magnificent son, Bobby. We will continue to pray for you in your grief, just as we pray for our son Samuel and all those serving in these trying times - they are America's finest.

God bless you each and every day and know that your grief - and pride - is shared by all of us in your Marine family, plus millions of us "ordinary" Americans.

Comments: I hold a special place in my heart for our marines since Camp Pendleton is home to the few, the proud. My husband was a marine many years ago, however, once a marine always a marine...you know that. I grieve for your loss. My marine is gone, too, so I gave him the heads up to seek Bobby out to say hi and thank you for his service. I firmly believe in the afterlife and as sad as you may be you will see your Bobby again. Until then he will be with you. I have a POW/MIA web site I'd like to invite you to. On the left towards the bottom it says The Chapel. Please click that link. There is a poem there which may sustain you in your grief. The words are good advice. Here is the link: http://powmias.learncomputersnow.net Bobby is with our Heavenly Father now and I will pray for him as I do for our troops daily.

God Bless you,

Comments: My thoughts and prayers go out to the Warns Family. For I am a single parent of a Marine who just graduated from boot camp in October 2004. I am so very proud of him and all the young men and women who have taken this step in there lives to join our military. My son is only 19 years old and I am so scared but I know that this is a choice that he has made. While I was watching the news last night on Fox 8 they showed your sons story and it has brought tears to my eyes. This is a very fine tribute you have made for your son/brother/father/husband in his honor. I have never in my life seen such a touching vedio. My son is home for the holidays and he was watching the news also when it came on and I know it touched him because he just sat there and after a few minutes I asked him if there was something wrong and he said no. I knew by the tone of his voice it had touched him like nothing has ever done. He just graduated last year from Trinity High School and 2 months later was gone to boot camp. Becoming a Marine has really changed him and he has become a stronger young man. He is wanting to go to Iraq because of the fallen Marines he said it is a brotherhood that know one can understand and I respect him for that. He is wanting to be there side by side with his brothers he said and I do not say anything because he knows that I am scared enough.

May you cherrish the memories of his life and build from there. I want to thank you for sharing your story with all of America. Your sons memory lives on in all of our lives that it has touched. May God Bless you and be with you through this holiday season.

Comments: Hello, I served as a Ranger in Vietnam from December of 1971-73. I saw a lot of combat and two of the members of my 6 man team lost their lives in that place. Those boys (Men) were the closest human beings to me I have ever known. One of them fell in battle 22 December 72, and his parents recieved word he was back on U.S. soil on Christmas day. I never have forgotten the men I fought with as I am certain had the roles been reversed, they'd have never forgotten me. Find comfort in that, because the men that served with Bobby will never forget him or the sacrifice he made for them. Semper Fi, Merry Christmas. When he heard the British were coming to attack, he had an oversized American flag made to raise over his command. It was those very stars and stripes that Francis Scott Key struggled to see in the dawn’s early light as he wrote our national anthem. Col Armistead later died of wounds received in the war. Comments: I sat here tonite, two days before Christmas, and watched the tribute to Bobby Warns on the ten o' clock news. I was suprised to see that this man, this one single man was honored so much, that a simple tribute to his life made headlines on the Fox 8 news, all the way down here in North Carolina. I am sad to say, that I did not know Bobby, but as I watched the tribute, for the first time in a long time I broke down and cried.

He seemed like a great man, and an even better marine. We all know that the different branches of the military trash talk eachother, but in this time of sorrow and self sacrifice, it does not matter. The Lexington United States Air Force 31st Composite Civil Air Patrol Salutes Bobby Warns, and wishes the best for his family, and friends.

May he always rest in peace.

Although I did not know Bobby, I am humbled to know all that we as Americans have in freedoms is in part because of his love, dedication, committment and sacrifice. I am honored to now know Bobby through this video and tribute. I'm sure his new little girl (congratulations!) will radiate the same love he obviously had for friends, family and Country.

God's peace to you at this difficult time; I promise to remember him (and all of you) in prayer.

Comments: Hi,

I'm 13 years old and my sister showed me the vidoe and i balded my eyes out. It was so sad just to see him wife pregnant and he isn't there to go through all of it with her. My sisters boyfriend know a couple of guys that are from Fondulac that were in the same thingy as Bobby. I hope that you guys are all getting through this good and i hope that his baby girl will be all right. I wish you all well and god bless bobby and his family

Comments: i actually just lost my great uncle who fought in germany (i think) he was 96 years old and i think of him as a hero...

and when bobby's little girl gets older and understands what happened to her beloved daddy, she will know that her father was an American hero.
