Being in the United States Air Force, I know exactly the dedication, the pride and the honor Bobby felt serving his country. I feel the pain his family is going thru and the treamendous loss inside. I want them all to know that Bobby did not die in vein, he died for everything he believed in and everything we belive in. Freedom is not free, and he payed the ultimate sacrifice. May he never be forgotten for his generous donation to this country! Semper Fi....Carry on!

Comments: My wife Sally and I would like to pass on to you our deepest sympathy. Sally shares in your grief as her brother James is also a fallen marine. He was the last serviceman from Kenosha killed in the Vietnam war.

The video of Bobby's funeral is a wonderful tribute to him and to all marines that have given their life for our freedom. We fly a marine flag in front of our home along with the American flag as a tribute to Sally's brother James and my Uncle Bruno who was killed in WWII on Guam and was awarded the Navy Cross. When we look at the flag now we will always think of Bobby as well.

Sincerely,

Rick and Sally Matteucci

There are never adequate words of condelence for the loss of a beloved child. All I can say is that I'll include all of you in my prayers that God will comfort you in your time of need, and that as time passes the memories don't, but some of the pain does.

May the Lord bless each of you at this time is our prayer, from our home to yours,

I have a 19 yr old daughter that wanted to be a Marine but also wanted to be in the medical field. She is now a corpsman at the Hospital on Camp Pendleton, doing her best for the good of the Corps. I also have a nephew that is a Marine Cpl in Iraq and a son that is a ROTC Jr at USD that will go into the Corps upon graduation. It is the accomplishments of our children that make our hearts swell with pride. Be very proud of Bobby, as I am, a brother, a fellow Marine. Semper Fi

Comments: THE "MARINE" OUTSIDE MY DOOR

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.

My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep in perfect contentment, or so it would seem.

So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eye when it tickled my ear.

Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.

Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!

Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts, to the window that danced with a warm fire's light then he sighed and he said "Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night"

"Its my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,

I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"

Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile."

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red white and blue... an American flag.

"I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home, I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat,

I can carry the weight of killing another or lay down my life with my sisters and brothers who stand at the front against any and all, To insure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?

It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone.

To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead, to know you remember we fought and we bled is payment enough, and with that we will trust.

That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the death of your beautiful son. What an exceptional man.

My husband, MSgt David Preaseau, and I were driving one day and I asked him if how he felt about dying for his country. His exact words were, "Wouldn't that be a great way to go?" I cried because at that moment I knew exactly what it meant to him to be a Marine. I'm proud of him and of your son.

Thank you for bringing such a wonderful man into the world to fight for something so noble, our freedom.

May God bless you and your family.

Comments: To Bobby's Family, Friend's, & loved ones,

I would like to "Thank You" and yours for bringing to this nation a man that had a mission, and was willing to step to the plate and pay the "ultimate sacrific" for his nation & it's people. As a Marine veteran of Gulf I with the H&S Co. 2/24 Marines, 4TH Mar. Div., my only regret is that we did not finish off Saddam the first time, and that we left the job to yet another generation of "Devil Dog's". On behalf of myself and my family. We "Thank You" and your family for your loss !!! Let me explain this comment. Unfortunately, 9/11 happened, and I knew what was coming then. More death, more distruction, and more families ripped apart. Bobby knew what he had to do, and did it in unselfish "Devil Dog" style, in love of God, Country, & Corps. He has now become one of the TRUE HERO'S that has kept this country free for over 200 years !!! Only a few are willing to step to that plate, when the nation calls in a time of war. Bobby did it, and now we must never forget his sacrifice to help our nation, the Iraqi people, and the world be a safer place, where "Freedom now can ring" !!! I would also like to thank WTMJ 620 for sharing this with us, and all they do to remind us of our hero's, their mission, and what drives them to do their part, in the "War on Terrorism". May God bless you and your family, and may Bobby have a chance to give his daughter some "pointer's", before she join's you here in this world !!! I hope to someday join Bobby in guarding the streets of Heaven, if God deem's me worthy. "Semper Fi" and Bobby truly did "do, or die" !!! May we all only come close to living up to his standards !!! Sincerely, Cpl. Terry L. Peterson

My wife Eleanor lost her husband in Vietnam on Thanksgiving Day of his third "hardship" tour during that war,and found out when a taxi pulled up in front of the house and gave a telegram to our daughter, similar to the scene in We Were Soldiers by Mel Gibson. I Thank You and I Thank Your Son for all you have sacrificed for all of us!

Comments: Dear Warns Family,

I just wanted to let you know that you raised one of the best son's and one of the best men I have ever known. I went to school with Bobby at UWM and we became good friends. He made me laugh all the time and he was always out to make people feel good. He had the biggest heart and always watched out for me. I remember one night when I was really upset, Bobby and I sat by lake in the freezing cold because he knew it my favorite place in the city. We had to have been out there for hours but he made me sit and talk and cry until I felt better. And the first place I went when I found out Bobby was killed, was the lake, and I cried but I didn't feel better until I realized Bobby was doing this for us.

He's a great man, full of love and laughter, character and compassion. I wish you a Merry Christmas and I wish Erin the best with Payton. She will be the luckiest girl if she has even half of Bobby's heart and spirit. God bless you all and I will be keeping you in my prayers.

I love your son and your family, and thank you for the ultimate sacrifice that all of you have made. Your loss has made our families safe. Our brave men and women are keeping those murderers from organizing and coming here to kill. Only God can comfort you; you are in my prayers. Praise the Lord for families like you.

CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN

"Tis Christmas in Heaven

What a beautiful sight!
It's my first one here;
Everything is all right.

The crib is adorned
with brillance of stars;
Wisemen have come from venus and mars.

I've met all our dear one's
who preceded us here;
The reunion was lovely,
An event full of cheer.

And tonight we'll all gather
In reverence we'll kneel
for the Babe in the cradle
up in heaven is real.

I think of my family
that I left behind
And I pray that your Christmas
Is as blessed as mine.

Please shed no tears,
for my soul is at rest,
Just love one another;
Live life to its best.

Yes, it's Christmas in Heaven,
so I've heard them say,
Yet, Christmas in Heaven
Happens Every Day.

>From your loved one's above....

Every day that goes by and I hear of another Marine loss, my hearts breaks. My son is not in Iraq, but would go in a minute. I am so proud of the Marines and what they are sacrifising. I know it will be hard this Holiday season for you, but I hope you will know there are other Marine families who are thinking about you.

Comments: I am a youth minister at a nearby Catholic parish. This is my first year on the job, so I always work late. But last week, I happened to go home early and I happened to turn on the news. I saw the uninterrupted version of the video for Bobby's funeral on Channel 6 and before long, tears welled up in my eyes. Soon, I was full-out sobbing.

Ever since I studied St. Augustine's Just-War Theory at Marquette University, I was decidedly pacifistic. I felt it was my Catholic duty to eschew violence and war in favor of justice and peace. And although I am only 22 years old, it never hit home that men like me could get swept up in the war in Iraq -- a fight for freedom and democracy -- until I saw Bobby's video.

Thank you for making the video and sharing it with our greater community. It tells a tale that all people should hear: the very real human sacrifices which are made by our most selfless and dedicated heroes. They fight under the auspices of justice against an enemy that has no respect for life, no concept of the dignity of every person, and no idea of inalienable rights.

Thank you and thank Bobby for all you have done. I will strive to share his life's message with my youth and open their eyes to not only the harsh reality that exists, but the truth that we CAN make a difference! Bobby and his story made all the difference to me.

Bobby and men like him are those we are most proud of and grateful for. They are the reason we are the home of the brave and the land of the free.

Comments: How can I find words that can express my condolences, relieve the loss, and hurt you feel at this moment? I know there is a terrible hurt as you ask why him? I don't know nor does anyone. All I can say it's God's will. He brought us into this world to serve and when we've completed that task, our time is up.

I lost my younger brother (21 at the time) in Vietnam in 1969 and even today, I feel his presences. I am happy in the knowledge that he is with God as Robert is too.

Robert is not gone; he merely reached out to God's hand and walks with him this very moment. As those Marines who have gone before him, he too guards the streets of Heaven and awaits us all!

There is really nothing anyone can say or do to relieve your pain. Just know that as time goes on, you'll find the answer in your heart.

Sincerely,

I am a Navy Commander and have flown F-14s in both Afghanistan and Iraq. My brother is Marine, currently flying Hueys in Iraq and it is from him that I recieved the link to your site. I could never adequately express the sincere gratitude I have for the sacrifice that Cpl Warns--and your entire family--has made; however, you might like to know that your site has had a profound impact, not only on me, but on many Marines who continue to share the loss of their brother with others.

He undoubtedly sincerely believed in what he was doing. I saw many of my dear friends die in Vietnam and my heart goes out to you, of course there's no comparison to seeing your friends die and loosing a son or husband. Keep the faith, he is in a better place now, up there sitting at the right hand of God guarding the Pearly Gates.

The video touched my heart, because my wife, Laurie, and I have a son currently in the Marine Corps. Our oldest son was also a Marine and served in Afghanistan. Praise the Lord he came home safely and is now discharged. Jonathan, who is stationed in San Diego, sent me an email and told me about Bobby. From what I can see, Bobby was a gift from God and was loved by many people. I believe Bobby is truly happy now and is "with the Lord" being held in His strong, but gentle arms. Knowing this, however, we still grieve over our loss, because it is hard to let go of someone we love. Our sympathy goes out to you and we encourage you to draw upon God's strength. We can be proud that Bobby died the way he did -- in service to others, just like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Comments: MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF BOBBY WARNS. WHILE YOU HAVE SUFFERED A TREMENDOUS LOSS HEAVEN GAS GAINED A OUTSTANDING SOLDIER. I THINK THAT I HAVE SOME IDEA AS TO WHAT YOU MUST BE FEELING AS MY SON JUST RETURNED FROM IRAQ IN MARCH. IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT THERE'S AT LEAST A FEW THINGS THAT DEATH CAN NOT TAKE AWAY. FOR EXAMPLE, THOSE SPECIAL MOMENTS YOU SPENT WITH BOBBY THAT MAKE YOU FEEL WARM AND FUZZY OR HOW ABOUT THE SPECIAL THINGS THAT HE ONCE DID THAT WERE UNIQUE TO HIM ONLY, MAYBE IT WAS HIS WAY OF MAKING EVERYONE LAUGH OR HIS POSITIVE SPIN ON EVRYTHING.

NO, I DIDN'T KNOW BOBBY BUT I SURE APPRECIATE HIS SACRIFICE IN KEEPING AMERICA SAFE.

YOU KNOW... I DON'T THINK I LIKE THE TERM FALLEN MARINE, I SEE HIM AS A RISEN MARINE, BECAUSE DEATH IS A INCREASE AS HE'S ON HIS WAY TO MEET HIS SAVIOR. NO MORE WAR, JUST PEACE.

Comments: My son Oliver left a comment a couple of days ago.I directed my son to this web-site after I'd seen the coverage on WISN. I had no idea the impact it would have on my son. We've always tried to teach my son patriotism just like you would teach everything else you are supposed to teach as a parent. My son is 10 years old. His Grandfather is A veteran of World War II. His Uncle is a former Marine. His Paternal Grandfather served in the 60's in the army after fleeing Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. His Grandfathe was part of the crowd to kick the head of Stalin into the Danube.

I just want you to know my son plans on serving our country. He comes from a a longline of patriots Your son has only fortified his commitment to peace. He feels he owes our country because of his forefathers before him. Trust me. There is no changing his mind. Who would have thought that patriotism could play so strong of role in a child. Please pray for my son,who is already willing to give up his life for freedom. We pray for you and your family. When I am called to serve, Dear Lord,
Wherever war may be,
Give me courage to fight the battles,
My country may ask of me.

Grace me with Your presence,
And know that I love You,
While I fight the enemy,
My country needs me to.

Help me protect my comrades,
As You expect me to,
And keep me in Your loving hands,
While I do what I must do.

I want to do my duty,
And to give the best in me,
To do what I've been called to do,
And protect our liberty.

And if, according to Your will,
I must give up my life,
Please bless with Your protecting hand,
My children and my wife.

I just wanted to say that the video was so powerful. I want to thank Bobby for fighting for our country. I will continue to pray each night for our soldiers and for your family. GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY AND I WILL PRAY FOR YOU TO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL AND HEALTHY BABY....

Bobbys mission was accomplished according to what god had attened. Now Bobby has a new mission to watch and protect his daughter payton and his family. We have to remeber that bobby died so that payton could have a chance of living in a world of peace, that his family and friends would expirence peace on earth. Comments: The video was truly beautiful and touching. I lost a brother growing up and can truly understand the grief you must feel. You are all in our prayers and just know that God is holding Bobby in his hands right now and protecting him. When a friend passed away in an auto accident, the minister likened his death to a trip far away to see other relatives and friends who had gone before. We left behind are sad to see him go but must know that the others who are waiting to see him again will greet him with open arms and some day we all go to on that trip. Keep your faith in God and know you will always have Bobby in your hearts. Memories are God's way of making us smile through the tears. May God hold all of you in his hands and keep you safe and comfort you. You were truly blessed to have the time you did with Bobby.

Comments: As I read the comments left by others, those that have served and those that have not, the thoughts of Marines of past and present paralleled my own. Shakespeare, Our Hymn, the feelings and memories return. Your loss cannot be replaced. Bobby paid the price for our freedom. The price all who serve have thought of, and try to dismiss as they perform their duties. My family was lucky, just as others, in that they did not have to pay the price you are now. Godspeed Bobby, You will not be forgotten. This Memorial is a credit to You and Yours. The Few, The Proud, The United States Marine. To all who serve God be with you. Semper Fidelis, USMC 1986-1992

I can not say that I know what it is like to have lost a love one due to any wars. My brother just got out of the marines. He served in the war in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom. Seeing this video really touched me. It reminds me why I joined the military. to serve our country. My thoughts and prayers are with yall.

Thank you Bobby for serving our country.

Comments: If GOD took me today I would have to say that my life has been good. I am but 37 and hope to have a few years left. I guess the most proud moments in my life have been that of the birth of my own son and daughter. It is for that reason that I can say that I understand your pain. I cannot imagine the loss but I can imagine the pride.

The lives of Bobby and so many others remind us of the very best in humanity. I thanks him and I thank you for his service to our great nation. We are a great nation because we are a good nation. We are a good nation because of good people like Bobby...and you.

It is so small a gesture but let me say to each of you at this time that you are not alone, I did not have the pleasure of knowing him but I grieve his loss with you and wish you a Merry Christmas. He surely did not pass in vein. He will remain with us in our hearts until we all meet again.

Comments: To the Family and Friends of Bobby Warns,

Please accept our deepest sympathies on the loss of Bobby and know you are not alone. On July 8th of 2004, we lost our nephew, Spec. Collier Edwin Barcus, in Sammarra. He and four others were searching the rubble after a car bomb exploded at the Iraqi National Guard Headquaters, only to be hit with a multiple mortar attack.

Collier loved what he was doing. He believed everyone should have the freedoms we take for granted. He had a smile that went from ear to ear. Though he had his share of trouble, he had just straightened his life out and was headed down the right path. Unfortunately, like Bobby, that path was cut short.

The video is wonderful. I wish someone had done that for Collier's service, so his namesake in Ohio could see it when he grew up. He, like Bobby, will be remembered by all of us.

Once again, our deepest sympathies go to your family. Please know that we will keep you all in our hearts and prayers during this Holiday Season.

This is the roughest part for all of us who have lost our loved ones. Take Care & God Bless.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of your sons passing. I hadn't seen Bobby since he was a child. It was hard to connect the child I remembered to the marine who had died to serve his country. Please know that my thoughts and prayers were with you all throughout those weeks. After viewing the wonderful video that has been created to remember him, I needed to let you know how much his sacrifice means. Because he served, we are safe. Because he served, we are free.

Comments: Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1417 the English King, Henry V, urged his men to stay with him and not to leave the field where the battle was about to begin. The French forces outnumbered the English by some 25,000 to 6,000. It took great courage for the English to stay and fight. Through his leadership and his clever tactics the English won a decisive victory against great odds. Historians attribute the victory to Henry's leadership.

Shakespeare wrote the following lines in his play entitled "Henry V." The words, although certainly not a direct quotation from King Henry V, are inspirational and moving. These words were delivered as he addressed his troops before the battle began. They are applicable to all who serve or have served in America’s military ranks. For we Marines the words are especially meaningful.

"But we in it shall be remembered.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers- For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother;..."

Comments: To Bobby's Family,

My deepest sympathies to you for your loss; but my greatest thanks to you for Booby. The Marines truly are the few, and the proud, and Bobby was one of those few, one of those proud. The world will be a safer and better place because of the work he and his brother Marines have done, and continue to do. I spent 8-1/2 months in Iraq, and am preparing to go back soon. I don't want to leave my family and friends again, as I'm sure Bobby didn't want to, but I know that what we are doing is right, just, and will make a difference. I have already seen the differences we have made in thousands of lives there. Bobby, and Marines like him have made that difference.

Be proud of Bobby, remember the good times, and know you are in mine and my family's prayers.

Comments: Dear Warns Family,

Bobby is a great man, and you can be so very proud of him for who he is. Words can not express how proud I feel to be an American, and to have people like Bobby fighting to keep that feeling alive. Don't be sad because he's gone, but celebrate his life, and the memories you have. If you feel sad, you are only feeling sad for yourself, and others around you because he is gone, but instead you should be glad, for that Bobby is in such a wonderful place, and all of his worries, fears, and problems are gone. Bobby is in the best place that one could ask for, so be glad for Bobby, be proud of him, and remember all the great times you have had with him, and that we will all see Bobby again when its our time. God Bless the Warns family, especially Payton, who will be so proud of her daddy.

Thank you so much for sharing your life, and Bobbies life with all of us. God Bless, Frank Bellante

Comments: Bob, I can understand you loss even though I have not lost. My son is also a Sgt. in the Marine Corp. and he was in the invasion at the start of the war. I too thought we has lost him when we were told that his unit came under attack while on patrol in Najarif. It was about two days later that his commander's wife contacted us and told us that his unit was safe. Lter it was his unit that found our first POW's on the side of the road and rescued them.

My wife and I send our sincere prayers to you and your family and say that we are thankful for the sacrifice that your son chose to give his country and that every breath of freedom we take for the rest of our lives will be because of his sacrifice. We can surely say that God has another medal on his chest of bravery and we give him the praise and glory for choosing your son to fill that honor. God bless you and your family.

Comments: My deepest sympathy in the loss of your son. As the VERY PROUD daughter of a former Marine (21 years), I can only imagine what the hurt must be like. I lost my oldest sister unexpectedly 12 years ago (she was not in the military) and I have never experienced such a constant heartache. The only way I deal with her loss is to remember her, doing things in my daily life to have her "near" me, and find comfort knowing she's in heaven looking down and helping to guide me in my life now. Your son did a very honorable service to our country. I am very thankful for his service and extremely proud that he is a Marine. OOOOOOOORAH!

May God heal the pain to dry your tears and bring you memories that allow you to smile.

Comments: To Bobbys family-

I never knew your son or what kind of person he was but i know that he was a United States Marine who paid the ultimate sacrifice and leaving his family behind. For Him being a Marine i give him total respect. I look up to Marines especially because not everyone has the urge to become a Marine. Bobby did. I will soon be going to boot camp following in the steps of Bobby and to me Bobby will soon be a fallen comrade and brother...I hope you all get through this BUT he will not be forgotten. The Corps is 229 yrs old. For me that is one of the main reasons i want to become a United States Marine. To wear the uniform Bobby once wore. The title he so honorly obtained And all the rest of the fallen marines and former marines who served their country so proudly i admire them and i admire your son! May god watch over him and his family and all the Marines - Semper Fi Poolee Slate

Comments: Hello from a retired Marine with one Corporal in the Baghdad area, and a second one going back there in a few months.

You have done a great service for Marine Corps families by the thousands, and by now (through e-mail forwarding) probably tens of thousands of people. By allowing us to observe and actually participate in Bobby's final services you have done several things: you've let us get a glimpse of your wonderful son and to share in your grief; you've shared feelings that couldn't have possibly be conveyed any other way; and you've given us other parents a renewed sense of the tremendous honor and loyalty given to Marines by Marines, all the way to the end. We cried, and smiled, and I felt myself giving Bobby a rigid salute as he was laid to rest.

Thank you for allowing us to have a small part of such a moving event. Bobby has another military family holding him in their memories.

Your heart is broken, the tears are being shed, but your son Bobby has left his legacy, his little daughter. He will live in her, and I know that you will talk to her about her daddy, so that she may learn about him and share in all the wonderful memories you have of Bobby.

If you have not already heard, there is a support group for bereaved parents called The Compassionate Friends, and I am sure you will find your local one through the internet. If not, please do not hesitate to e-mail us and we will get it for you. We found out about this group through some friends, but unfortunately Delaware was the only State that did not have a chapter, so for two years we attended a chapter in Valley Forge. Two years later this chapter helped us to establish the first one in Delaware, and now there are several throughout the state.

It was a godsend to us,to be able to talk to other parents who had lost a child or children. We know that you are getting an enormous amount of help now, but maybe in the future you could both attend one of these meetings.

Again, we are both thinking of you throughout this Holiday Season and know it will be difficult.

God Bless You!

Comments: Dearest Warn Family and Friends, May I express my deepest sympathy to you for your loss of Bobby. I also express my gratitude for him making the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Knowing Marines I am sure he was proud to serve and misses his family, friends, and his fellow troops. He is at peace in the arms of the Lord and guarding heaven's streets. God Bless.
