As I watched this video, I could feel the love being shared. That says alot about Bobby and his family. Jean Culver Pocahontas, IA Name: Thom R Clark Location: North Carolina Comments: I never knew the young Cpl but that doesn't matter. He joined long after I did but for probably the same reasons. In the Marine Corps it doesn't matter where you came from or where your going all that matters is that your a Marine. There is a special place in heaven for those who sacrifice in this manner. I know I will meet them all someday. Semper Fidelis to you all and remember that nobody is dying in vain in Iraq. We will see the positive results in the years to come. Respectfully, Master Sergeant T.R. Clark USMC (Ret) 1981-2004. Name: U.S. "Sam" Grant Location: Arlington, TX Comments: Each time I read about the death of one of my Marines, my soul dies within me and my shoulders slump almost to the ground. I take a deep breath and remember the only line from Full Metal Jacket that ever had any meaning for me: Always remember this. Marines die! That's what we're here for! But the Marine Corps lives forever and that means YOU live forever! My shoulders square, my soul breathes new hope and I try to regain my composure. It is not always easy. No words can compensate for your loss, but my prayers are with you and your family. Name: Bert Lindgren Location: Atlanta Comments: Hi - I am a new listener to a local radio show in Atlanta and after watching the incredibly well-done, beautiful, moving and unforgettable video about a unique person I feel as though I now know a little who was - and is - surrounded by some very special people, including the people who conceived of, wrote, directed, produced and, yes, paid for the video. I can only hope - selfishly I admit, that my son and others in my family feel about me even partially the way that you feel about Bobby. It would be presumptuous of me to thank you or your Marine for anything other than for being himself and for allowing me to know a small bit about him, his life and his family. Finally. thank you and to the people of the radio station who caused all of us to be enough to see it. Bobbie will not be fprgotten by any of us. Thanks - Bert Name: Bobby Ward Location: Sidney, Illinois Comments: Dear family and friends, I cannot pretend to know the pain you feel in Bobby's passing. What I can and do feel is the deep sense of sadness that ALL citizens of a free nation feel when one of our sons and daughters makes the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. The video tribute you have offered here is heartwrenching to be sure but heartwarming as well in celebration of Bobby's life. Although far to short, I hope you will be comforted always by all that he was in life, and that you will be blessed and comforted by those memories always. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to you at this awful time. Bobby Ward 109 W. Main Sidney, Illinois 61877 Name: Denise Toebes Location: Janesville, WI. David Name: Skip Wray, MGySgt, USMC, Ret Location: San Diego, CA Comments: Dear Mr & Mrs Warns: It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the loss of your son. Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. I know how painful it is to lose someone of the finest caliber as your son. I served 26 years in the Marine Corps, and 18 months of that was in the infantry in Viet Nam. As one who walked in your son's shoes many decades before, I know how much your son cared for his Marines, and how much they loved and respected him. The one thing you learn in combat is the reality that you are just a memory. So you strive so hard to leave as many good memories behind as you can. This is only accomplished through acts of courage and compassion. It is obvious your "Beloved Son" was very good at this by the warm memories of his fellow Marines and your family. The Marine Corps is a group of men and women who put the ideals of the Corps first and themselves second. One of these ideals is FORTITUDE - The strength to persist, and the courage to endure. I know your family is going through this at this time, but remember you are not alone, every Marine is with you during this time of challenge. Thank you for letting me write this message to you, and know my prayers are with you. As my Drill Instructor told me over forty years ago,"you are mortal and therefore you can die, but as long as there is a United States Marine Corps your are immortal, because Marines never forget those who went before." Bobby lives in the heart of all of us who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. You'll see Bobby everytime you see a Marine in uniform. You'll see his spirit in their eyes, his pride in their bearing, and his love of life in their laugh. As long as there is a Marine in uniform, Bobby lives! Semper Fidelis, Skip Wray Name: Vivian Meletis Location: Mooresville, NC Comments: My heartfelt sympathy to all of Bobby's family. No words can adequately express my sorry for your loss. I thank you for your sacrifice for our freedoms we share today. My husband is a Korean War Veteran Marine and my 21 year old son is currently awaiting his orders with the Marine Corps. My prayers are with you that you will gain strength each day knowing that Bobby made the ultimate sacrifice for you, his wife and his child to ensure they live in a safer world. God bless. You will forever remain in my prayers. Name: Matt Mersereau Location: McDonough, GA Comments: I sit at my keyboard and wonder what to write. What can a person say to a family that he has never met to express the gratitude that I feel in my heat towards them. There are no words that can adequately illustrate the feeling that men like Bobby, and the thousands of others like him, instill in their countrymen. I am full of sorrow for the loss of your beloved Bobby, and at the same time full of joy that men like him exist in this day and age. Whenever I hear someone, or even myself, ask "What's wrong with the youth in America today?", I hope it takes less than a moment for me to be reminded of the young men like your Bobby. To be reminded that there are young men and women in our great nation who care enough to make the sacrifices that are being made every day in Iraq. I am proud of what Bobby has done, and what all of the others are still doing to secure freedom when none existed before. I thank God for Bobby, and for all his brothers and sisters in the United States Armed Forces. May God bless each and every one of them. Name: Todd Location: Woodstock, GA Comments: Having just seen this video which so beautifully helps me and others celebrate Bobby's life, I'm reminded that my freedom is not free. My freedom and the freedom of others around the world has come at a cost...a cost that many, like Bobby, have been willing to pay. Though I never knew him, my life is enriched because of his sacrifice. I am challenged to live my life sacrificially, to give as if the future and freedom of those I love depended on it. May God grant me the grace and strength to be a 'Bobby Warns' in the lives of others. Thank you for allowing me the honor of meeting and knowing your son/husband through this beautiful tribute. May God bless you and keep you in His perfect peace. Todd Trainer Woodstock, GA Name: Patsy Chapman Canady Location: Camp Lejeune/Jacksonville, NC Comments: What a beautiful tribute to Bobby. He was so young, but Marines give their lives at varying stages. The playing of taps quickly took me back to my Dad's farewell ceremony( Dec. 04), and I remembered the pain you must surely feel right now. Name: Erin Fleming Location: Athens, GA Comments: Just thought I would share one more comment: I was working at one of my jobs this weekend at a bar when a group of Marines came in. They were all so excited to be Marines, sharing stories, and yelling out an occasional "OOrah" every now and then. I remembered seeing one of them in there before, from his Military I.D., and got to talking to him. He asked me if I knew anyone in the Military and I spoke of those I did Bobby, and his recent passing. His jaw dropped. His reaction was "No way, BOBBY WARNS?!? I went to Boot camp with him! He was such an awesome guy. I'm so very sorry to hear about that." A couple other Marines came up behind him and were all about to drink a shot. The gentleman I was speaking to rose his glass and toasted "This one's for Bobby Warns, a true hero and one helluva guy. May you rest in peace, brother." The other guys followed with another "OOrah" and took the shot. Yet again, one more person (among so many) who Bobby made an impact on in his life. I've been reading all the comments people have left and it's so heartwarming to see all those who have left messages- whether they knew Bobby or not. Bobby has left a piece of himself with people all over the nation. Thanks to the video/tributes, there is that many more people who got the chance to see what a fine man he was. He will forever be remembered for his smile, his spirit, his strength and courage, and for the ultimate sacrifice he made for us all. Comments: This is a note from a former Marine, (Korean War). I wish with all my heart that I could take Bobby's place. For you see, I'm and old man now and how Ilove these young Marines. Being a former Marine is very special to me, as it was with your son. The phrase Semper Fi, is the code all Marines live by. It is the code of a brotherhood that most Americans will never be a part of. Marines are a special breed, they not only love their country they love each other and will give their life for their fellow Marine. Oh, we love our families, our wives, our children but in the din of battle our only concern is the Marine next to us as it is with him. Your son was a good Marine, know that in the Corps, there is no higher accolade. He did his duty, be forever proud that you had such a son. He gave his life protecting my freedom. I hope this season we can all take a moment to remember Cpl. Robert P. Warns II and all others who live now in our memories and rest assure "THEY WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!" Our fallen brothers and sisters who won't get to experience a holiday with their family and their family that won't be able to share with them anymore. I am a firefighter and responded to New York after the terrorist bombings as part of FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. Knowing 343 of my fellow firefighters died there trying to save lives gave me great pause as I knew the United States Marine Corps would soon be at the doorstep of Saddam and other terrorists. What I also knew is that wonderful young men like Bobby would probably die trying to save lives too. I can only try to thank you on behalf all of the cops and firefighters out here that lost friends and loved ones on September 11th. Bobby fought the good fight and took it to our enemy. He died much like those firefighters in the towers that horrible day...giving his life for someone else. I pray that your sorrow will be bearable and that you know hundreds of thousands of Former Marines grieve with you. Bobby had the courage of a lion, and after watching the video, the love of thousands. Former "Sgt of Marines" 1968-73 Name: TREVOR GRAY Location: Okinawa Japan Comments: Dear Family, Words can not express the sorrow I feel for you and your loss. I am a SSgt stationed in Okinawa Japan now but I was with the 1ST Marine Div for the begining of the war. I went through alot over there, seeing alot of bad things happen and going through some trials and tribulations. As a leader of Marines like your son was, I was scared to death that I might fail my Marines and even more scared that they might die or get injured. I prayed alot over there and asked God to give me strength and the knowledge to do what was best for my Marines. I also prayed that if anyone had to die or get wounded that it would be me and not them. I was first wounded on 18 April 2002 by a RPG round and it was extreemly minor. I hid my wounds from everyone I could because I was afraid that I might be sent to the rear. So I duct taped my gashes and scrapes. I did not want to leave my Marines because I felt responsible for anything that might happen to them. Unfortunately two days later I was hit by sniper fire with wounds that could not be hidden. I begged to stay in Bagdad but was denied and I was sent stateside. I believed in what we were doing and I was ready to die for my Marines or my country. As your son was a Corporal, a leader of leaders, I can only suspect he felt the same way. Nobody wants to die but we all knew it could happen. Your son was a honorable man who stood for all that is good in this country. He wanted to be the best and being a Marine was the best anyone can do. I am sure you know that he wanted to come home safe and sound and he tried to. But as Marines we know there are bigger things in life than what we want. Your son is a Hero and I have no doubt that for generations in your family the story of Bobby will be told on how his sacrifice was for the betterment of man kind and his unselfish devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself, his family, friends, and Corps. Name: Jason Christ Location: NY Comments: I was an active duty Marine from '95-'99. I'm so sorry for your loss. The video was well done. Bobby is with many thousand brothers who have given all in service to our country. It hurts me that such fine young men leave so soon. God bless all of you. Name: Micheal Gibson Location: Dallas, TX Comments: First of all: Semper Fi Bobby! I will keep your family in my prayers. It will be my honor to meet you at the gates of Heaven when my day comes. We, as parents of a U.S. Marine also serving in Iraq, can understand the worry of having a son in harm's way, but we cannot imagine your grief in the loss of your beloved son. May God bless you with comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead. We will hold you in our hearts and prayers. Name: J. R. Directo Location: Hawaii Comments: Though I never knew Cpl. He did great things, for me, for us and for this great nation. He protected us fearlessly and asked nothing in return. And no one is greater then that... May he rest in peace and may I have the pleasure of meeting this great man when I get to heaven to tell him thank you, for saving us. I am very greatful to have ones like Bobby who are willing to stand up and fight for our wonderful country and our freedom. As a proud fiance of a Marine, CWO2 JB Ficklen of the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA, I can say that we know how it feels to have a loved one be away from you fighting a war, but most of us do not know what it feels like to lose a loved one at war. After watching this video, it made me feel like I knew Bobby, it touched my heart in a way that I have never felt before. I have the utmost respect for Bobby and all of our other guys who are fighting for our freedom. I can honestly say that I will never forget about this one Marine that I just learned about. The image of Bobby will always come to my mind whenever I have a thought about our GREAT Marines. My fiance just returned from Iraq in October from his third tour, and he is most likely going to be deployed again sometime in the Spring.(with this upcoming tour being the second one that he has voluteered for) It's been a difficult and emotional time with him being away almost 15 months out of the past 2 years, but I am honored to aquainted with someone who is so willing to sacrifice so much. I have attended the funerals of 2 area Marines that lost their lives in Iraq while serving our country. I am most thankful for your son's sacrifice and admire him greatly for his courage. I spend time many evenings reminding my 3 young daughters, that while we lay back and sleep peacefully each night, there are Americans in the military in harm's way for our sake. Tonight I will share your story when I play your video for them. I thank you for raising such a fine son. I also thank you for allowing me to share in your grief by producing this very emotionally moving video. I only wish my sharing of this grief could truly lessen your own sorrow. As you can see from these e-mails from all over this country and others as well, the effect your son& friend Bobby, is having touching the lives of thousands like they never have been touched before. Heck just by looking at his picture he makes you automatically feel like you knew him personally. You can tell he was the all American kid that everybody can relate to. Maybe why God called him because of this ability to reach so many. His sincere act of bravery, will and is noted by many who never knew the name Bobby Warns before. When he became a MARINE he showed what he was made of. It takes a "special breed" to be a MARINE! Many are called,"FEW" are chosen!!! Like everyone says when a fellow brother Marine falls, all Marines.... "ALL" of us take it personally!!!! May God and your son watch over you and help you especially at this tough time. Even though no one can can feel what you are feeling (except other patents who have lost a son or daughter in Iraq)Anyone who watches your video, reads about him or just sees his picture will feel sorrow, break down and many will cry. Bobby put a human face on "what cost" others endure for them and the freedom they enjoy in America and at what cost. Freedom ISN"T FREE. May Bobby have eternal light shine upon him. I did not go the first time due to and officer's training program I was enrolled in at the time, but I will be there this round. I am sorry beyond words for your loss, but I can assure you, the young men of this country will continue to serve. Not for medals, not for glory, and not for America itself. We will continue to serve due to men like your son who made the ultimate sacrifice. We will continue where he left off and finish the job he so willingly contributed to. As I prepare to leave this January, I find myself reflecting on things like danger, loneliness, and fear, but seeing so many go before me gives me the courage to do so also. He will be leaving home on January 6th for training at 29 Palms prior to deployment. As you might imagine, it was very difficult to watch the video of your beautiful son's funeral. I knew it would be. It took a while to download the video and as I sat there, I debated about cancelling the transmission and saving myself what I knew would be a heart-wrenching experience. I'm glad I waited and then viewed the entire video. What a terrific kid and such a hugh loss for your family. Thanks for sharing your grief and your obvious pride. Too few know the full depth of the price that is paid. When my son was born in 1982, I never imagined I would one day send him off to fight in a war. My one consolation is knowing that he understands the risk - and the rewards - and that he is proud to fight for freedom. May God give you strength during your time of sorrow and healing.
