Comments: I never knew Bobby, but I do KNOW him. He was the men I served with, who watched my back as I watched theirs. He was the men who gave their lives trying to pull a wounded Marine from a river on Guadalcanal, who would someday, be my father. He was the Marine who fought with my grandfather in France, and my great uncle in Haiti.

Times change, wars change, but the title of Marine is a badge of honor, courage and commitment that others will never understand, but I do, because I KNOW Bobby, and I'm humbled by the experience.

Thank you so very much for reminding me why I still feel as if being a Marine among Marines, is a privledge, and not a duty, and know that no Marine ever falls, without leaving behind him another family, a few hundred thousand strong, who will honor his life as long as there is a Corps.

God keep you, Glynis Sakowicz USMC, ret.

Comments: Dear, dear family and friends of Marine Bobby Warns, Having recently buried two 19-year old Marines here in Las Vegas, I can only repeat what I told those young men's mothers. I cannot begin to imagine the pain you are feeling. My heart breaks and cries for you. This beautiful memorial you've prepared for Bobby will make its way across the world. You must stand proud in the knowledge that your boy was a Marine. I am a former Marine. Rest in peace, dear Marine. Semper Fidelis.

Comments: Dear Warns Family,

As a Marine Veteran of the Viet Nam era, with 25 months in the RVN, I want to say to you that Bobby is surely in a better place, and that his life truly meant something to so many. No one can know your pain, but 'know' that if one has to be called by God, one cannot go doing a better thing than standing for one's fellow Marines and contrymen. I salute him, and I salute you for your very moving tribute to him. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Comments: Dear Warns Family and Friends: My son graduated from MHS in 2002 and is currently at Camp Pendleton preparing for his next tour to Iraq. Erik went into Fallujah on his 19th birthday,(4-4-03) so everytime we hear anything about Fallujah it hits home. The weeks during the move into Fallujah this past month hit Wisconsin hard and remember standing in my kitchen when I heard about Bobby. It was as if my blood went cold. I cannot imagine your sorrow, but I can imagine your pride. Your son gave the ultimate sacrifice for us all, I will thank God for him always. You are all in my prayers and if I can ever do anything for you I will be there. The tribute in your video of Bobby is remarkable and his child will someday know the amazing man and Marine his/her daddy was. God Bless you and your family, and thank you Bobby.

I sit here with tears rolling down my face, after watching your tribute to Bobby, feeling as though I have attended another funeral of one of our greatest heros. As a father of another fallen Marine asked, "What have I done today to deserve someone I don't know dying for me?" Please know that Bobby's sacrifice weighs heavily on me and I will strive to live each day a worthy citizen of that sacrifice.

God Bless You All.

Thank you Bobby.

I am a very proud wife of a Marine who is currently deployed overseas and would like to express my thanks for all that Bobby did for his country. I can not begin to imagine how I would feel if my dear husband didn't come home. I do know one thing though, he would die PROUD. He is such a proud Marine, as I'm sure your son was.

I am so sorry that he will not be there for the birth or life of his child. I pray that his wife will stay strong and know that he is with her every step of the way.

I also want to thank you for sharing your video, it was very touching. I cried as if I had known Bobby all of my life, and have never met him. May God bless your family and friends and keep you strong during this time of sadness.

Comments: These tributes (written and video) are so special, so beautiful, and such a treasure! I can still feel the sweetness and the warmth of my last hug with our sweet smiling Bob! We can all still have those hugs and see that unforgettable smile, as his spirit is with us all!

In one of my written notes to Bobby to try to give him another reason for his face to break into that "Bobby smile," I included a funny little anecdote told by one of our local radio program hosts. It was about a yellow ribbon hanging in the front yard of the family home of one of our soldiers currently serving overseas. Each morning the soldier's mom would look outside and see that the yellow ribbon had disappeared! She kept replacing it and she thought to herself that she was going to catch that "anti-military culprit" who was stealing her yellow ribbons! She rigged up a video camera one night to catch the offender and in the morning when she viewed the video, low and behold, it turned out that a squirrel that had been absconding with the yellow ribbons!!! Bobby wrote back to me from Camp Pendleton during training, "Dear Aunt Sue, ..... Funny story that relates to your story about the squirrel. Some of the Marines came back from training to the house where all of our packs were and there was trash and wrappers everywhere. A squirrel had gotten in the house, chewed a hole in the packs and eaten all of the food. We had a laugh because it wasn't our packs...." !!!

May God bless and protect all of Bob's fellow Marines as well as all of our military heroes home and abroad! I love you, Bobby!!! Aunt Sue

Comments: I think that when God takes someone “before their time,” He has a purpose in mind. God took Bobby at such a young age, so that the rest of us would learn from his life. Bobby Warns was the kind of person that God wants the rest of us to become with what time we have left.

>From what I saw as a student at WCSS and later CMH, Bobby loved his family and they loved him. Bobby was a positive member of the community who engaged people in fascinating ways. Before Bobby went to Iraq, he was a hero. That is why God chose him.

I remember bumping into Bobby on the street once in Madison a while back. It was years after our time at CMH. We were so happy to see one another. We spoke like it had only been a matter of days since our last meeting.

Bobby embraced each moment and made the most of it. Perhaps this is one of God’s lessons for the rest of us.

To the Warns family: my thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.

To Bobby: if your standing guard and you see my dad walking down the street, stop him and say hi. He will remember you...we all will.

YOU WILL BE MISSED, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN

Comments: Dear Warns family:

I'm sorry to say that I never met Bobby nor anyone in your family, but I was so deeply touch while watching this video, I felt compelled to add a few comments.

I was Marine through 1982 to 86 in the infantry division and my heart goes out to all service individuals that are serving abroad, but I can't help but to hold a special place in my heart for the Marines.

I won't tell you that I know what you're feeling, nor can I say that I understand the emotions (and numerous feelings) that Bobby was exposed to while serving in Iraq.

I have a son (19 years old), and the thought of losing him, is unthinkable. And I say that not to make you feel any worse, but to pour out my heart and honor to the unfortunate sacrifice that you and your family have made.

I’m so sorry for your lost, and my heart goes out to you and your entire family. May God bless you and all of your family and offer his comfort in this great lost that you are experiencing.

A former Marine,

Joe.

I am a former combat Marine from the Vietnam era who now has a son in law, nieghbor and an "other son" who grew up with our son who are all in Iraq today with 2/24 Marines. Every Marine lost during our lifetime is felt deeply as Semper Fi is not taken lightly and although a different generation of Marines exist today we weep for them as if we were by their side in combat. Eventhough I had never met Bobby, his characteristics were of a remarkable person who thought of no selfish act. My condolences and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. I am very sorry for your loss and I know that there will be an emptiness in your lives, but I pray you will gain strength in the Lord and each other to help you through. Here is a poem for you:The Lord is there in your time of need when all seems dark and drear, when the times are tough and you need a friend He is ever near. All you do is cry out His name and He'll draw you up with His might, where He waits to comfort, love and cheer you and stay with you through the night. So never fear when you're in need to gently call His name, because the Lord wants to love and hold you and you'll be glad He came.Sincerely Christina Tossell.Psalm 23

Comments: I cannot find the words to express how I feel for your family, nor do I believe there to be any words that can. My sister's husband was killed Aug. 24, 2004 in the Anbar Province of Iraq. His name was Lcpl. Jacob R. Lugo. He fought and died with L Company, 3/7. He had just turned 21. His and ultimately "our" sacrifice has been incredibly tough. I can't help but feel he and the other's are up there smiling down upon our every move. Privately, my soul yearns for the day when I will get to relieve him of his post in heaven. I will most certainly add Bobby and family into my prayers. To all who have lost a loved one I believe we can take comfort in this small, yet powerful phrase: TILL WE MEET AGAIN.

Your memorial galvanized me to personally do all I can to support the troops in Iraq and their families.

I know that while I sit here confortably in front of my computer, other Americans are enduring unimaginable hardships and constant danger in Iraq.

I remember comming home in 1969 to a citizenry somewhat jaded to the sacrifices that were being made in Viet Nam. I will do my very best to make sure that does not happen on the home front this war.

It's a wonderful memorial of a fine young man who went in harm's way to preserve not only our freedoms at home, but to establish freedoms for a people abroad who had long suffered under a brutal dictator. That your family chose to share this film with others, beyond the immediate family, friends and fellow Marines, is a wonderful thing, as it reminds us all of the sacrifices being made to ward off terror and preserve liberty. Comments: Dear Family,

I want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. These are trying times and your son gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

It hits home for me personally because I have had friends and family in the service and understand the sacrifice that your son made. Another reason is that I am a DSHA grad of '98 so we were around the same age.

I wish your family peace and comfort.

Comments: Thank you for the video.

I was unable to get out of classes those days. Bobby was always the Master at gettting out of class.

I would appreciate and look forward to seeing Bobby when I was laid up in the hospital for so long. Bobby always found a way to put a smile on my face even after a long day of therapy.

I asked Bobby once How he was getting out of class so often and easily. He said to me that he told his teachers he was coming to visit me.

Comments: To Mr. and Mrs. Warns:

We never met, but at this time I thought I'd like to pass on to you the brief time that I met Bobby when he was a little boy and in the same Indian Guide tribe as my husband Richard and son David.

Our first house was on Wilson Avenue near Carroll College. Bobby was a year younger than my son, so he must have been five years old or so the night that Mr. Warns and Bobby came to our house for their tribal meeting. I remember asking my husband after the meeting who that adorable little brown haired boy with the big brown eyes and cute grin was. He said of course that it was Bobby Warns and that the Indian name he had chosen was "Root Bear." I thought the name was so cute and fit him perfectly.

I remember seeing Bobby at the Pine Wood Derby at the YMCA and I think he is in a couple of pictures that we have from when the guys went to Phantom Lake camp. Over the years whenever we reminisce about those years in the Y-Guides Program, I always found myself asking my husband - "I wonder whatever happened to Bobby Warns - he was so cute! I remember that darling grin he gave me the night that I opened our front door and he walked in the house with his Dad for your first meeting." No one ever answered the question, but my comment was the same every time we talked about the Indian Guides years with my son.

Our son attended South High School and since Bobby went to Catholic Memorial, it makes sense that we never saw him again.

My heart stopped the morning I heard about Bobby's sacrifice on the radio. I held my breath until I heard the name of the soldier and was so shocked to hear Bobby's name. His little 5 year old face immediately came into my mind. My heart aches for you and your family and friends - and especially for the mother of their yet to be born child.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and may you be comforted by all of the wonderful memories you have of such a fine son.

Respectfully,

Carol Smith

I wanted to tell you that this site and memorial, is one of the most beautiful memorials I have ever seen, I have sent it to all of my sons, and there family's I hope thats ok. Name: Charlie Nichols

Location: Swink, Colorado

Comments: After watching the breaking news of of the deaths and their sacrifices of our Marines it forced me to give even more thought to something I have been thinking about for some time now. Twelve members of my family are veterans and two have been killed in action so I thought I always understood the sacrifice our military men and women make and why they do it. That was until a couple of weeks ago when my nine year old son and I watched "Saving Private Ryan" and in the ending scene when the dying Capt. Miller tasked the young private Ryan with the responsibility to "earn this". "This" being the sacrifice his brothers in arms have made.

My son asked me how could private Ryan earn "this"? My first answer to him was the typical and most apparent things I think most people think of. I told him that Pvt. Ryan could make the most of his life, maybe staying in the military, getting a good education, starting his own business and be a good employer, being active in his community and in politics, raising his children to be productive adults and to love and respect this country and etc, etc. But after thinking about it for awhile and wondering how we "earn this" and how do we repay the sacrifice freely laid down for us a different perspective dawned on me and something very different became apparent to me.

I believe that there is no way we can repay their sacrifices, because those sacrifices weren't made for us. They were made for the ideas and principles that define this country and make us the greatest country in the world. What makes America unique and great is the fact that we are not defined by our ancestral heritage or skin color or birth or religion, but by our devotion to the ideals of Freedom, Choice and Equality under law, to which any person can subscribe. And any person who subscribes to those ideals in accordance with our law can become as much and as fully an American as anyone born here. "German" can mean a Nordic blond haired-blue eyed native speaker of the German language and is person who is a citizen of Germany. "American" just means a citizen of this nation. No eye color, no body type, no ethnicity implied. Our strength is not in our diversity. Our diversity is proof of the strength of our ideas and principles. Of strength enough to call people from European castles and third world jungles Americans, and to make each of them free, allow them an opportunity to prosper, choose and be an equal under the law.

We can not repay the debt to the men and women in our armed forces like Cpl. Warns because it wasn't incurred for us. We can't show ourselves worthy of the blood these men and women have shed because it was not shed for us it was shed for the principles of this country. We can however, honor that sacrifice by devoting our lives to the ideals and principles for which they laid down their own. So, how do we "earn it"? If you encounter a member of our United States Armed Services or their family, Thank them! Thank them sincerely and profusely. Do them a small kindness if you are able, small care packages with a handwritten letter to a deployed unit, help their family members that are here at home and keep them in your prayers if you are religious and/or your thoughts. But most importantly, take the time to truly think about and understand the idea’s and principles that are America and the reason these men and women and thier families are making the sacrifices then try to live up to them. I don't know Cpl. Warns but from what I have learned of him he was a very intelligent kind and loving man that thought through everything in his life and he understood and believed in these ideas and principles that is why he is a US Marine and he did live up to them like all the other men and women in the US Marines. God bless Cpl. Warns and the other men and women in our armed forces and their families."

Comments: I served with Bobby for 5 years in Golf Co. I could always count on him for a laugh. My best memory ever with Bob was during our deployment workup, sitting in the middle of Camp Horno in the "kiddie" pool that he bought. It was a pretty surreal sight, 6 Marines in a little pool, drinking beer. Bob always had that attitude - "Why Not?" he would say. Thats what made him special......

My heart goes out to his family and friends back home and here, I know these times are not easy, but we can laugh and remember the good times, and we'll press on. You are all in my prayers. God bless.

He was in his element. Bobby would lean comfortably against his locker and laugh with his friends--he always looked like the most relaxed among them.

We will all miss Bobby, and I hope that we will all remember to pray each day for his family. When Bobby finished his senior year, our school looked proudly upon him as a graduate; today, we look upon him as a graduate and a hero. Thank you, Bobby, for choosing to be the best among us.

He was always making people laugh and could lighten anyones day. We here feel his absence everyday and he, Brandon, and Contafio are our reasons to continue to push on. Bobby was who I was closest with ever since leaving to California. On our last 96 you stayed at the same hotel in California and I remember seeing you all in front of the valet. He was so excited to be with his family and Erin that he forgot to introduce us. He was always happiest around his family and he really made me feel like family as well. I have a 3 year old daughter and he would always talk to me about what it was like and was excited to be a father. I am here in Iraq now and I will be home in due time. Comments: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Warns,

Yesterday we received a letter from our son,Christopher Maida, from Iraq, written Nov.13. I would like to share some of it with you.

"Bob Warns was my good friend. We both entered the unit at the same time. We even saw each other frequently in Boot Camp. He went to UWM,"( as did Chris)"so we hung out at night sometimes and saw each other at the bars often. I've complained to you both how I sometimes have a hard time getting along with Marines. Bob Warns was different. I never had a hard time getting along with him. He was one of the good guys. If it wasn't for him, there may have been a time when I would have stopped going to drill. Bob was hilarious. He could make any situation funny. I was always depressed when I showed up to drill on Friday nights, but Bob would show up(at least a half hour late usually) and crack a joke and I'd instantly be laughing. He helped me lighten up, which is exactly what I need sometimes. I really wish he was with me now to help me out."

Mission Dangerous. a brave Marine volunteers.

One who stands out even among his peers.

I'll take the point, as he leads into harms way, Knowing this could be his final day.

Relentlessly and courageously he draws enemy fire This Marine has no quit, he will not tire.

Mortally wounded but with a country to save, He will rest when in his grave.

Another shot and this time fatal.

A brave soldier, a Fallen Angel.

As he dies yet so he lives.

Life for his country he willingly gives.

Many have fallen, many more will follow, So we can all enjoy another tomorrow.

Fallen Angels in a hostile land,

Still leave their footprints in the sand.

Watching out for you and me,

No greater friend have we.

Your son is indeed a Fallen Angel and he watches over us. We thank him for his sacrifice, he will not be forgotten. May God bless you. bob

We will some day see Bobby again and will once again enjoy the laughs and hugs which will never end. A scripture says well what Bobby did for us all : The Gospel of John 15 : vs 13 ; " Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend's ". Bobby has done the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life for others. I feel very sad but yet very happy because I know for a fact Bobby is home with the Lord now. May God comfort all of you and give you His peace and joy as you remmeber all the good times you have had with Bobby. If you need to talk or want any special things prayed for please e-mail me or call me. I am kind of the adopted Pastor for Fox company and want to help in any way I can. God bless you all abundantly.

I have never met Bobby, but after watching that video piece I felt like he was a high school buddy I knew. Very touching and an awesome tribute to who your son was and the sacrifice he made. I have to believe your sorrow during these most difficult times takes a backseat to how proud you must feel about your son.

Thank you for sharing your son's story with us and a big thanks to the friends at Creative Images for handling it with such class and creating such a beautiful and touching tribute.

Comments: To Bob's Family - I am sad for you. Yet, I am so proud and heartened by what the Warns represent. We experience so many diffent occasions in life where tears are present. Having lost a son, I understand your tears this last week. They will dry on your cheek, but remain in your heart.

I wanted to tell you about a different kind of tear. The kind I experienced when I watch this video. It was a tear of sadness, yet it was also a tear of hope. Hope knowing we have the likes of Bob representing and defending us. Hope that the world will see the honor of a true American. Hope knowing that these sacrifices are worthy and will some day bring peace to all.

It was also a tear repesenting pride. Pride in America. Pride in the families of CMH. Pride in the American family. Pride in our search for Christ...knowing we are on the right path. Bob affirmed that for me.

And it was a tear that will forever touch the hearts of a community.

God bless your family.

Comments: To the family of Cpl. Warns,

I knew Bob as a Marine and also outside the Marine Corps. While attending UWM, I often saw him around campus and at his favorite bar, Axel's. No matter what random day of the week I ventured in the doors there, I'd see him sitting there. He was a great man who I'll never forget for his perminant grin and great sense of humor. The story that sticks into my memory the most, occured at Camp Horno this summer. I was the barricks Duty NCO and was in charge of maintaining order around the building and surrounding area. I was making my rounds when a masked figure who was humming the "Mission Impossible" theme song came swooping down from the second story using a grappling hook. It wasn't good for me at that moment because those are the kinds of situations the Duty NCO is in charge of taking care of, but it made me laugh because it was Bob and the way he did it. He was a good man and he is sadly missed by his brothers at arms.

Comments: I was forwarded an e-mail with the link to this site by my mother. This was forwarded to her from her friend, who's son, John Lohmiller, was a very good friend of Bobby's. This is an amazing and beautiful tribute for Bobby.

I grew up in Brookfield, WI and lived there until last year. When I first saw this picture, I remembered Bobby right away, but couldn't place where I knew him from. It didnt take me long to think of how I knew him- from an old job- Fun World, in Brookfield. The minute I remembered that, memories of working with him came flashing back.

The cute smirk on his face is what I remembered first. He was always wearing that half smile- even if he wasn't amused with certain aspects of the job. And he constantly had a positive attitude, along with an upbeat and caring personality that made it easy to get along with him.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Bobby and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. May Bobby live on in his future daughter/son and always live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. I have included a poem below, in hopes that it will bring some comfort, and perhaps, put a smile on your face, as Bobby put one on all who knew him.

"Living On In Memory"

Dear ones who love and miss me,

Seek me within your own memory.

Each face of all those around you,

I'll be there sweetly, and this is true.

Look in your heart and you'll truly see, There I live on forever, beuatifully, All places, all thought, all that you do, Living on in generations, there I am too.

Loss is but a chapter, a life moving on, The world still spins, for I am not gone.

Seek in remembrance clearly my smile,

Gone only briefly, but just a short while."

Comments: I learned of the death of Bobby Warns from my good friend Susanne in Oconomowoc. She was touched as was I in reading of the unselfish acceptance of Bobby's death by his parents.

It heartened me to know that the Warns are very proud of their son being in the U.S.military and of his service in Iraq, even though he/they paid the ultimate sacrifice of his life.

My husband & I were in Scotland when Bobby died. About that time, 3 soldiers in the Black Watch died and we were distressed to read and hear so much disgust for the U.S., Pres. Bush, and the U.K.'s involvement in "America's War". Fortunately Tony Blair remains strong and understands it's got to be a global war against terror. It's not our war!

May Bobby eternally R.I.P. and may God grant His Peace to his parents and sister, Erin and their baby she's carrying, as well as other family and friends.

I'm having difficulty viewing the video but will keep on trying until I'm successful. I understand that it's way too moving to give up on seeing it. What a lasting tribute to Bobby to have made the video for his baby to treasure his/her dad's life and death more and more as the years go by!
